I might have missed it but really did no one include this brilliant gut-wrenching LP in their AOTYs? This could change, I suppose, but at the moment it's tied for me between this & Marie de la Nuit's Transportees. Nadah El Shazly, Laini Tani (One Little Independent Records, 2025)

My GOD this's a great fucking record. Two side-length live tracks from New Jersey 1975. Free jazz? M80s? Guitars? "Death to the alchemists!" WTF. Bangone Ensemble, Live At The Ledge 1975 (Open Mouth, 2025). Came highly recommended by Brian at Record Grouch & now I'm recommending it to you

Immersing myself in Spiritual Jazz 18, 4 LPs, tracks from Estonia, Azerbaijan, GDR, etc. Behind the Iron Curtain vols. 1 and 2 (Jazzman, 2025). "The history of jazz in the USSR is inherently complex and contradictory ..." As is listening to it in 2025. I recommend it & the liner notes that come with

Ripping LPs for an all-vinyl 2025 new+reissue+compilation show Dec 31, including this brilliant integration of the past to illuminate the present. Marie de la Nuit, Transportées (Permanent Draft, 2025, despite what (c) says on back of LP). Worth reading the notes (see other pics)

Picked this out-of-control EP up from Sublime Frequencies' HM at the 4th Annual Record Hawk Show last October. The Smashchords, s/t (Smashtrade Records, 1981). Ripping some tracks for this week's guitar-forward episode ...

Ripping this killer live LP by Argentina's Los Violadores for this week's show. LOVE LOVE LOVE this record & grateful for Federico Gómez Levitanas's essay at shit-fi.com/articles/Los..., which includes link to a translation of the band's manifesto of sorts. A @wfmu.bsky.social Record Fair score!

Stopped in to Academy Records Annex to pick up some home-taped Arabic cassettes Cory alerted me to, and wound up also finding this personal grail: Original Wings, Change This World (EMI, 1979), feat. all-timer Igba Alusi youtu.be/2hC1HI0deuw?...

Ripping some of my favorite & rarest Sabah tracks for next week's show. This is the soundtrack for Lahn Hobbi (El Ahram, date unknown). Sabah's range never ceases to amaze me. Killer tracks from her on this and the soundtrack for Afrah El-Chabab, which I'll be ripping in a moment

First time hearing this Moroccan powerhouse. Aziza Galal, Ila Awel Mattabeuna (Sout El Hob, 1976), her debut LP. Holy crap, it's amazing. Discogs only lists 13 records, she retired at 26 in the mid-1980s. Ripping the whole damn record for you kids who'll be listening in Wednesday

Ripping a track from this personal grail for next week's show. Les Frères Mégri, Mahmoud Hassan Younès (OG Philips, 1973). A terrific Moroccan LP that doesn't really quite sound like any other

First listen. Caetano Veloso, Transa (OG Philips, 1972, trifold). "Walk down Portobello Road to the sound of reggae ..." "You look completely different from those straights who walked around on the moon". Perfect dreary light rain gray-blue-silver sky gnawing sadness music

Finally found a good listenable copy of Os Mutantes' s/t first LP (Polyfar, 1986 RE of Polydor 1968 OG). I dunno how Brazilians feel about this album at this late date, but I've always loved it & am loving it even more out of real (small) speakers. I almost forgot they do "Baby"!

Found one of my all-time grails at the @wfmu.bsky.social Record Fair today: A 1st mono of Tropicália Ou Panis Et Circencis (Philips, 1968), one of my favorite compilations ever, first time hearing this music on something other than a computer

I have NOT listened to this exhilarating historic LP nearly enough. Aunt Sally, s/t (2022 Mesh-Key RE + 7" of 1978 concert; OG 1977 Vanity Records). Ripping this and records by several other artists for an all J-women punk-related episode for this coming Wednesday. Totally great!
