What I love most about Railway Bluesky is that it seems most parts of the network are represented in some capacity by someone, including heritage lines. I think I get to hear about what’s happening in most regions and principle routes here. It’s fun, so thank you.
That is of course, hypothetical, but maybe a potential future player to take into account. I just can’t imagine it leaving that market alone.
Hypothetically, will Great British Railways not seek a piece of the action when it exists? I think we’re currently viewing GBR as likely to be the sum of its existing parts, but it’ll be big and I can see it using the clout to expand its reach, specifically towards HS1 if given the freedom to do so.
SNCF should consult British Airways before trying anything. Didn’t work out so well for them when they took Branson on…
Taking a pic of the brew I just made because I’m just back from a trying early turn and it’s grey and autumnal out.
Getting ready for Wednesday night. It’s a serious business in this part of Sussex.
I sometimes forget this place exists. I don’t know why because I can definitely cut loose here a little more.
I want to know what happened to all the chivalrous signalmen these people keep writing about
The sodding escalator’s stopped AGAIN - Platform staff at Gatwick Airport.
Ok now I want to make a modern parody 😂
Which would you choose?
I’ve already heard a few in the messroom, so looking forward to reading a few more 😉
A story that glorifies the end of British rule in the United States, playing right at the very heart of the British seat of power to rapturous patrons. It’s impressive and I wonder if, quite deliberate.
You know, it’s an absolute triumph of American cultural influence that the musical Hamilton plays each night in London to thunderous applause from a packed theatre that’s less than a mile from both the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace. You can’t argue with that.
That’s life on the Iron Road ain’t it
Thanks. Certainly had better days
Today was a code black day and for the worst of reasons. 💔😔
I think a name change will be required upon nationalisation this time unlike with SWR, as it seems unlikely to nationalised operator will carry the Govia name.
Been waiting to hear of the date of GTR’s nationalisation (out of pure self interest for the most part) and now we have it as being the last day of May next year, after the DfT let it slip out quietly last night.
The following year, the line between Haywards Heath and Brighton would be completed, allowing for the first through train to arrive, from London Bridge, in September 1841.
What with today being the railway’s 200th birthday, I wanted to share something of the dawn of rail where I am.

This engraving, from November 1840, commemorates the opening of Brighton station by the L&B Rly, and its first train - to Shoreham - in May of that year. #Railway200
That’s the bloke! Dunno what his issue was, should’ve been pleased that the gates at immigration were being thorough. 🤭
Loud honk from the driver and some animated platform staff if they tried that here.
He was making a proper tit of himself but probably didn’t realise as he gave that facial recognition camera some of this righteous patriotic fury we’ve all been learning so much about.
(This is, sadly, true. No embellishment)
