Our local grey heron

A grey heron standing on one leg facing to our left. There is a low stone behind him and a large flat stone on which he is standing. These form part of the weir where he looks for fish etc. The heron’s long neck is visible.

A chaffinch and a siskin in a squabble

A chaffinch with russet body and grey head is in flight to the left of the image. We see its right wing fully extended behind and above its body. In front of it is a yellow and green siskin on a yellow feeder which is filled with sunflower hearts. It is gripping the feeder with its feet and reaching with its body in the direction of the chaffinch, wings extended and beak open, letting the chaffinch know it isn’t ready to relinquish the feeder position yet.
