Sorry, let’s try this again with the correct link. The whole Frankfurt School/CT framework can get a little stuffy and convoluted, so even Wikipedia can provide a nice overview of those topics and more worthwhile references.

Feminist Aesthetics (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)

you’re interested I’d recommend the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. They host a lot of academic level reference articles with extensive bibliographies if you want to dig deeper. The articles on Critical Theory, Aesthetics in Critical Theory, and Feminist Aesthetics are a good place to start.
That‘s so kind, I’m just happy if I can add something to the conversation 😭

I wish I had a nice contemporary article to recommend, but most of my limited insight comes from what I remember from my philosophy major. A lot of the primary sources are a bit of a pain as stand alone works, however if
Belated Happy Birthday! 🎉

I’ve just caught up, and I’m so sorry about your job and home. I hope things are going okay. Stupid money obsessed rich people breaking the world for all of us 😭

Please call your reps about KOSA today. Especially if they're Republican. This is THE priority
Are you kidding me right now? This is the last thing we need. KOSA is back no thanks to Senator Blumenthal who is working with the GOP and bringing in Republican Senators to convince the House to support it.

Please, CALL GOP House leadership and tell them to keep opposing it!

this isn’t meant as a universal assertion, just an observation of one dynamic that’s at play“ applies 😅
give Chris the characterization of Chief Irons to assert a non-masculine coding for Leon because T*RF ideology frequently defines womanhood via an inherent victimization by men. (Also Chris is visually more attractive than Chief Irons 😋)

Anyway the usual disclaimers of “fandom isn’t a monolith and
superior to Chris in every way, but Chris’ admiration is still desirable to affirm this superiority, as opposed to coming from someone like Jill and Claire, because we subconsciously are conditioned to favor masculine framed approval.

Alternatively, you get the classic fanfic scenario where you
both based on their canon interaction, but also because Chris’ hyper masculinity further allows you to affirm Leon’s separation from his. It’s pretty telling what traits are attributed to Chris in a lot of chreon fanfic versus Leon, and you get this funny tension where Leon is clearly painted as
characters in Leon and Chris, who have to be re-framed as being aligned with feminist/queer values to become acceptable to identify with without losing one’s progressive credentials. Sticking them in a yaoi pairing is an obvious way to do that, and if your main focus is Leon, Chris is a good choice
so in some cases feminist/queer reading of the material has crept very much into T*RF-y territory where everything masculine is not just considered less attractive, it’s inherently deficient from a moral standpoint. So we get this cognitive dissonance where we have two distinctly masculine coded
I’ve been thinking about this since I got into RE, even though that particular fandom dynamic in mlm pairings isn’t unique to RE, and I suspect a lot comes down to the complicated relationship post-tumblr feminist fandom has developed with masculinity.

Fandom isn’t always the most nuanced place
