Paint and Celebrate list of materials – Participants in the #PaintCelebrate event with Ni-ka Ford on Thursday, October 16 from 6:30-8 pm ET for Black in Anatomy Week 2025. You will need the following items listed in the picture: one 11x14 sized canvas (or watercolor paper), Acrylic or water-based paint (yellow, red, orange, purple, white or 4 colors and white), three brushes (small, medium, and large), a paint palette (or substitute cardboard, a paper plate, a Tupperware lid, etc.), an old toothbrush, a cup of water, paper towels, newspaper or plastic to cover the table, beverages, and snacks. You can also try to paint with items you may already have (e.g., paper, markers, colored pencils, crayons, etc.) or digitally on a tablet or computer using a media app (e.g., Sketchbook, Procreate, Photoshop, etc).

Black in Anatomy Week 2025 Meet the Artist of “Connection” painting being reproduced in the #PaintCelebrate event for Black in Anatomy’s 5th Anniversary: Ni-ka Ford is a Board-Certified Medical Illustrator based in Atlanta, Georgia. She is the founder of Enlight Visuals, a scientific and medical visualization studio. She creates didactic illustrations and 3D visualizations for scientific research, journal publications, medical education, and patient educational materials. She received a MS in Biomedical Visualization from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a BFA in Studio Art from Georgia Southern University. In her spare time, she loves to paint and explore the outdoors by hiking, gardening, and camping.

Marcelo Oliver is the founder and president of Body Scientific International, a global medical illustration and education company he established in 2005. A graduate of the University of Michigan’s Medical Illustration program (1992), Marcelo has spent more than 30 years creating, directing, and publishing tens of thousands of visuals used in over 100 medical and science textbooks worldwide. #AnatomyArtAdvocacy

Black in Anatomy Week Meet the Speaker! Sleep Research and Inclusive Excellence at UCLA on Tuesday, October 14, 5:30-6:30 EDT. Dr. Ketema Paul is committed to expanding opportunities in science and academic research. He serves as Co-Director of the Bunche Fellows Program at the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies at UCLA, where he mentors students pursuing research careers in a variety of academic disciplines. He also directs the UCLA–HBCU Neuroscience Pathways Program, which provides meaningful research experiences and long-term mentorship for students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Black in Anatomy Week Meet the Speaker continued for Dr Ketema Paul. Dr. Paul is the founding Director of the Integrative Center for Sleep and Performance at UCLA, a cross-disciplinary initiative focused on understanding how sleep and circadian rhythms influence health and performance across a range of human activities. Dr. Paul received his Bachelor of Science degree from Howard University. He earned his doctorate in neurobiology with a focus on circadian biology at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.
