These photos show some of the process of rebinding a #facsimile to give it a cover that suits the period of the original text. In this case, an early C16th copy of The Abbaye of the Holy Ghost.

A few pics of the event I did at Arkenstall Village Centre in Haddenham, Cambs. on Saturday 11th.
A friend organised this fundraiser, & it was so much fun. Lots of lovely visitors to talk to, & I was able to make progress on some projects.

Made my 1st history pamphlet! It's a reprint of a 1535 text & soon available on my Etsy shop.

Printed on 100gsm laid paper, sewn with waxed linen thread & slighter smaller than A6. Perfect for #reenactment or anyone who is a connoisseur of #history

Thanks for the heads up! I shall bear this in mind and do some practice pieces first. I've not used one this size before.
A new #bookbinding finishing tool arrived just the other day. Isn't she pretty?!

A special #book for the person who gifted me items made by their sister & gold foil from their father. I used some to create a keepsake to treasure. As an artist themselves, a sketchbook seemed fitting.
I tried new techniques with this: foiling, coptic binding & adding ribbon.

Some friends and I will be participating at this event this Saturday!
I will be an 18th century bookbinder for this one, with many projects on the go, and selling my wares too.

I'm looking forward to attending this event, with 'Roman' friends, on Saturday!
Sunday was very exciting. I won on ebay, for a good price, a huge bundle of #bookbinding things from someone who's late-wife used to bind.
There's lots of tools/stamps; a few other binding bits; a tonne of leather (alas most too thick); and, not pictured, a Dryad guillotine.

A lovely little project is on the cards for this weekend.

‘The Pearl Manuscript makes disciples of those who do discover it. Revisiting the poems, I found myself ensnared again by the language and frustrated by the impossibility of conveying their strange beauty.’

Beautiful! I'd love to bind a cover like this, but have no skill or patience with embroidery 😆
A 17th-century bookbinding in full bloom!

While screening the collections for books to show during a hands-on workshop on historical bookbindings, we stumbled upon this devotional book bound in a beautiful embroidered binding featuring flowers, usually associated with female makers and/or owners.
Front cover of the book with a brownish cloth binding decorated with flowers by means of needle work in different colours. It contains the library shelf mark on the top left corner Spine of the book with several flowers sewn on a cloth cover in different colours. Back cover of the book with a brownish cloth binding decorated with flowers by means of needle work in different colours. You see a fragment of a silk thread in the middle.
I have been very kindly gifted a set of handmade paper samples, parchment repair samples, and gold leaf, from my partner's colleague, once made by their sister 40 years ago. The gold leaf was their father's.
