It doesn't stand out as much in the anime which had wilder color schemes but comparing her to the majority of Gen 1 characters it kind of feels like that gives her sort of a standout flair compared to, say, Erika which seems juxtaposed as the more traditional Japanese woman.
And I always assumed "tomboy" as used by the Japanese is kind of equivalent to yankee in being a bit unconventional and not a comment on gender roles like how the US used it. And I know dying hair used to be sort of counterculturally.

This is just what I've gleamed throughout Japanese media.
This is kind of off topic but a question I've been thinking about with the Brock stuff...

Am I wrong or do you think Misty is meant to have dyed her hair? I'm thinking how most of Gen I have pretty typical standard Japanese haircuts back when Pokemon was most resembling our world
It was more sort of the vibe the anime gave her more than the games. I recall her motif was very classical Chinese sounding
Though I've read Japan's increasing tension with the Chinese has made it so now Chinese characters are appearing less and less in media. I do kind of feel a lot of classic anime had pretty prominent Chinese characters but that's really not the case nowadays.
Same thing with Iris.

Though personally I always took her...atleast the anime...to be Chinese and sort of relating again to how Japan tends to draw Chinese characters with darker skin to other them.
Also think a big discussion involving the way Japanese depict Japanese probably has some unfortunate relations to their WWII imperialism and how non-Japanese Asians in anime tend to be a lot more stereotypical.

Like how Ramenman looked in Kinnikuman as the Chinese rep.
So I feel a big part of the Brock discussion from my standpoint as a 90s American was there was a significant amount of people who considered him black. And that was cool for a lot of people.
I recall that Roboco is also a huge fan of "chicken tendies" in the manga, though I'm not sure if that's a translation of something else originally in Japan...but that's why I thought they paired her with Blaziken.

Though the knee thing works too
I guess like 4Kids did they wanted to include a pop culture reference so they decided to reference the ubiquitous and well known Goodyear Tire Blimp pretty much every American has probably seen once in their life or heard of
Though I was disappointed cuz the original had a pun on geta sandals and damn I was hoping they'd make a dumb croc pun
I know you don't do new episodes sick they kind of uninteresting but I think Horizons 69 is a fun one because it uses a lot of puns on Achigator's name and I was interested in how the dub would handle it...and actually pretty good
The episode that added the (I'm still not sure how authentic this is) Tajirii's favorite line to the series and the pre-evolution of the Pokemon that US sources seemed to promote far more than Japan did for whatever reason
When I see a ninja I think of a prominent civil rights lawyer
Seth MacFarlane would've ATE the role of Oz. Like think about it
Goroawase seems to be the reasoning behind a lot of Japanese holidays dedicated to fictional characters...like Goku and Kaixa.

And of course I'm pretty sure that's why Mewtwo's canon birth is February 6th (6/2 in Japanese order aka Mu Tsu)
I will stick up for 4Kids a bit here and say Groucho Marx impersonations popped up a ton in like Looney Toons so I think kids probably recognized the character archetype. I know I did. Like Peter Lorre impersonations being recognizable
Apparently it was Poliwag on Game Center CX but some sources claimed it was Poliwhirl
Am I wrong but isn't the Poliwhirl thing also a translation issue? I recall like the quote from Tajiri actually talked about Poliwag using its Japanese name but I'll need to double check.

(And the Poliwhirl in Special is probably just a coincidence and not related to the separate US push of it)
I've been writing up my idea for what if Sword and Shield had a proper Pokémon anime starring Ash.

My idea was bring back Misty as a Let's Go rep and to balance out the new Champion Ash, with Gordie and Allister. Since they're version exclusives you can have the other 8 Gym Leaders proper.
Maybe it was the one episode I watched. The episode where they meet the treasure shop dude who steals the Ancient Ball.

Just felt there was a lot of "punch up" dialog and characters almost speaking over one another. Seemed odd. Maybe I'm just used to subtitles lol.
Oh wow that's neat.

I was kind of surprised this bit of trivia wasn't mentioned on Bulbapedia.
Yeah but like Horizons seems really bad from what I saw.

Honestly ever since TCPI took over from 4kids the pacing always seemed really fast and off.
On a similar note I always wondered they used Marshtomp in the Ultraman parody in that Film Riding on Bakudan episode.

It's because he has a similar horn to Ultra Seven's infamous slugger boomerang
Alien Baltran in his debut episode in the original Ultraman series talked that weird filter, did the ho ho ho laugh Team Rocket do, and moved with after images like Team Rocket also do during the motto. And of course they did this all because Corphish and Baltan have the same pincers...
