If you were not well behaved, and you see this, it is probably a bit too late for repentance.

More often than not, clean builds can solve some issues that occur due to something, something being cached or not properly overwritten, but also they assure that your project compilation will work for other team members (given that the rest of their setup is correct).
bindus.bsky.social
One more tip about setting up automated builds is to have "iterative" and "clean" build configurations, with "iterative" being the one that pulls the latest changes on top of the existing local state, and the clean one being the one that wipes everything before each build.

We are doing our best to continue at this pace, and have an alpha version testable in a few months.

Until then, you can help us stay motivated by wishlisting Berghotel Heist on Steam and spreading the love!

Of course, it is always possible to test *some* stuff locally, but more often than not, we would receive false positives, before testing them in a real environment and experiencing existential crisis :D :D

Additional benefit is that we work remotely, and just being able to test multiplayer features so effortlessly is a blessing for us. Sadly, setting up multiplayer sessions can still be a huge pita, and multiple builds are necessary to dial everything in.
bindus.bsky.social
On average (given that it is a pretty barebones game still), iterative build takes 4 minutes from clicking "Submit" in our VCS to having it updated on Steam.
bindus.bsky.social
Coming back to the topic of dev-ops and CI/CD,
our latest effort in making co-op sessions work through Steam, and using UE OnlineSubsystem has been made infinitely more convenient, just by being able to build and deploy a build with a couple of clicks.

Our faces when we manage to host/join Berghotel Heist co-op session for the first time ever :D

🛣️Still, a long road ahead, but a big milestone has been reached!

If you have any questions about the setup of such pipelines, please ask away in the comments..

There are multiple free (or free until a certain threshold) and paid solutions, and since our project is made in Unreal Engine, my recommendation would be to look at the Perforce and TeamCity (both are free until a certain number of users/projects, which is perfect for tiny teams like ours).
bindus.bsky.social
At first, the whole setup process might seem daunting, but here are countless high quality guides online, as a similar practice is also common in other branched of software development.
bindus.bsky.social
For the ones that are not aware of such systems, the biggest benefit is that you can automate compilations/building, testing, staging and publishing process, and once everything is set correctly, those steps can be triggered with each version control submission, or just a single button press.
bindus.bsky.social
One of the parts of game development often skipped/overlooked by the indie developers is a creation of a reliable CI/CD pipeline, which, in my experience, can save you a lot of headache as your project grows, and particularly if you have commercial aspirations.
