A good time of year to remember and learn more about the composer, and author behind such works as The Nutcracker.

I do enjoy following the score, though do miss the bouncing ball. Does that age me? 🤭

Reconstructing emotional languages is an area that the digital humanities method known as sentiment analysis is good at. A new article by Liisa Jalkanen & Samuli Simelius applies it to Pompeii graffiti. My only worry is the corpus is too small in one house? www.sciencedirect.com:5037/science/arti...

A good read, and some reminders, for this time of year. Well, actually, all year round.
Every Year I dust off a piece I wrote about the Christmas Season that quickly spins off into contemplations on existence, science and religion, and the soul, and eventually returns to what a special time of year it can be.
Please let me know what you think.

Stick Man wants to go home. Can you help?
This guy was left in the library yesterday. 🪵

We don't know much about him but he keeps telling us

1) that he's Stick Man

and

2) that he's trying to get back to the family tree

If you left Stick Man behind you can collect him from reception.

Poem

Things get lost or annihilated
a drop of wine in a slow glide
to the bottom of the glass
The last time I saw the house on Lenape Road
my father's portrait as a young man
the Lester out of tune
once up to a Beethoven sonata

I fall backwards
in dreams
walk in the old tempo
in the old way
