New in PN: A band-aid on a festering hand wound

"The Epstein files and illegal boat strikes aren’t the only coverups taking place right now in the White House. There’s also something clearly wrong with the president’s health that the administration is trying to conceal from the public."
A band-aid on a festering hand wound
Something's up with Trump's health and we should really find out what it is.

An extraordinary 40% of women aged 15-44 say they'd like to leave the U.S. permanently, double the 19% reported for men (Gallup). This represents a dramatic rise, only 10% of women wanted to leave in 2014. Their preferred destination is Canada.

It may be unclear from these charts that show % growth but if a grocer bumps prices up 10% for valid (temporary) pandemic reasons and then those reasons disappear and they then "only" bump prices up another 3%, then they are keeping the 10% and 3%.

Convince me I'm wrong: Food price levels in Canada and the US are primarily the result of pandemic disruptions and the food supply chain greedily avoiding cuts in inflated prices once the pandemic subsided. Anti-government populist politicians prefer to blame the government.

I'm by no means perfect when it comes to character but nothing bothers me more than someone who lies to me. Especially if the lie assumes I must be stupid or uninformed. It's why I have spoken up about politics and it's why I disqualify many political candidates from the get-go. Truth still matters.

Flashback: Most of you know the effort I put in to cover scientific data during the pandemic when disinformation and crackpot theories were rampant. Looking back, probably the worst moment for me was seeing Eric Clapton become everything I despised. Hero to zero.

Bigotry and ignorance, in the age of the internet, have a way of catching up with you. And Clapton’s racism and conspiracy theories can no longer be ignored.

I wrote about a novel approach to tackling misinformation currently being discussed in Wales--and which some say Canada should try, too. What if we made a rule so politicians couldn't lie? www.thestar.com/politics/fed...
Is it time to make it illegal for politicians to lie to us?
That’s the question currently on the table in Wales, which has just released a draft of the “globally pioneering” sanctions for politicians.

You saw this play out during the pandemic. A single emotional vaccine-related death reaches hundreds of millions of impressionable minds and hearts but the millions of covid deaths and millions of deaths averted by vaccines are just unemotional numbers.

It is not a coincidence that social media is filled with rare events, a way to foster emotions and attract political followings, a way to foster discrimination and hate against groups or other political parties. It's truly a pathetic, low intelligence way to carry on public discourse and debate.

I try to look at rare events from a statistical viewpoint. Eg, if an immigrant commits murder in the US, is that a failure of the vetting system or a testimony to how well the immigrant screening process works? The 1 in the numerator causes hysteria, the thousands/millions in denominator ignored.

As you likely know, the CDC and FDA have been infiltrated by a host of anti-vaccine advocates led by RFK Jr. Those institutions are now actively attempting to override decades of carefully vetted scientific research and evidence with their own pet conspiracy theories and pseudo-science.

In my analyses of Ontario covid vaccinations and outcomes, I found a consistent and significant reduction in severe outcomes across all age groups including children. It's true children were at lower risk than older adults. But vaccines lowered their risk significantly. And the vaccines remain safe.

The CDC has carefully monitored the VAERS database of reported vaccine reactions. Medical professionals investigate any deaths for causal links.
There are ZERO child deaths causally linked to covid vaccinations. 183 US children died from covid. #vaccineswork
