Sound on for a short sampler of Hear My Heart Sing, in a new recording out later this week by the brilliant Epiphoni Consort.

Hear My Heart Sing is a choral showpiece celebrating the joy of singing together through the biology and imagery of the heart

I'm really chuffed to have been shortlisted for the Best Choral Composition category of this year's Ivors Classical Awards for Hear My Heart Sing. It's a real honour and the boost I needed as I navigate the depths of Covid. Thanks to the Academy for the nomination!

They’re named after their founder Ward Swingle - but maybe Ward’s parents were playing the long game

Thank you. Day 9 and still feeling terrible - but this cheered me up!

Farming should be in the exams?

Back in the day my A level English (at a state school) was done like that. Makes much more sense than learning quotes.

(My GCSE English was even funkier: 100% coursework, no exam at all)

By comparison, Woody Allen’s 60s standup is timeless

I remember buying a CD of his standup (maybe 30 years ago) and - important figure though he surely was - even then it was unlistenable and almost unidentifiable as comedy. Some things age *really* badly

Very good recent recording by Andrew Manze and RLPO - one of so many
