A statement from the Executive committee of the Benton County Democrats regarding Trump's illegal order to deploy troops to Portland. 🤬

The President has illegally ordered the Military into Portland in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act and authorized them to use the "full force" of the military. These troops are not needed. They are not wanted. This deployment is illegal and will cost taxpayers millions of dollars for what is either a political stunt or an attempt at a Federal takeover.

This is not normal.

Over the last decade, Oregon has been the testing ground for far right action that is then exported to the rest of the country, from the Malheur Refuge takeover, to clashes with Proud Boys, to disgraced Rep. Mike Nearman letting people into to the State Capitol in a precursor to January 6th.

Let us show the rest of the country how to stand up to fascism. Stand up for our Democracy both in Oregon and the country. Stay peaceful. Don't stay silent.
