American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

When I was a kid, we had a 20 ft high metal tornado slide that, in the winter, somebody would secretly go and throw water down overnight so it was an ice chute by morning. That thing would always have a long line of kids waiting.
I love that the Boston cop slide never got fixed and now people just willingly go down it in tribute. It’s basically a national landmark at this point

Fun exercise: what song does Billy Bass sing? You'd think it was YMCA, but you have to think more sociopathic. "You're Sixteen," Ringo Starr version.
It's even worse inside the Oval Office, believe it nor not

Mmm, yes, AI, thank you. What if October 31st 2025 is not, in fact, a Thursday?

Like...c'mon. You are not going to beat the bubble allegations like this.

That whole Prez/AI thing played surprisingly accurately to one of the big statements in Team America: World Police.

The weird thing about all of this stuff is that the British sending troops to Boston to quell the people they considered radical was/is American Revolution 101. And, like, the British had a fair argument!

The irony of somebody whose come-up was a book about escaping the (as he saw it) low-character lifestyle of his childhood community.
it is always worth remembering that vance made a conscious decision to be a person of low character. he has eagerly contorted himself into evil for the sake of what amounts to a whiff of power.
This is an actual exchange from a VP who took an oath to defend the constitution and, as a citizen, is expected to abide by the law.

May we one day have accountability for the grotesque lawlessness of this regime.

Might want to read a bit about how hard dictators shake down the people they believe are their opponents. I've heard they shake pretty hard. The most, even.

Unless, of course, you plan to be a supporter.
I’m the furthest from a Trump fan. But the reality is that he would have to shake very hard to equate to the shakedowns of the unrealized cap gains tax and warren’s tax that were proposed.
And what will YOU do, Mark Cuban, when he comes to shake you down, too?

A key element of white suburban mentality, which is the predominant mentality among his supporters (including among white people who would say they're rural), is a hatred of the city. It's couched in racism and ignores that suburbs have a parasitic relationship to the city.
Trump says he's willing to deploy the "regular military" to American cities, the adds that "Chicago is next and then we'll help with New York"

The whole National Guard thing is to see if he can do it, if the courts and GOP will allow it to happen.* The next time he does it will be to keep himself in office January 2029.

* Y'know, on top of having his brownshirts harass and kidnap immigrants and protesters

One thing that AI could be great for in history is programming its outputs to propagandize the past for an authoritarian government. See: Musk's efforts to manipulate Grok's outputs

All you'd have to do is have the proprietors of major AI companies cooperate with (or capitulate to) said government!

Call it what it is, extortion. If SCOTUS hadn't already rubber stamped this behavior, they'd be hitting nearly every specified mark in a RICO case.

Seen in the first issue of The Hockey News (Oct. 1st, 1947), p. 5: "[NHL veteran Bobby] Bauer has left the Bruins to help his father-in-law manage a skate manufacturing business in Kitchener, Ontario..."

Wonder how that worked out for him.
