Today I learned:
The Earth is heating up at a rate equivalent to four to six Hiroshima atomic bombs per second, with the majority of that heat being absorbed by the oceans.

Gentrification metric for my neighborhood is count of rugs out for bulky trash. This month, we have three in 20 houses on my block.

Just finished a mountain bike ride at the same time as two 50-ish white dudes.

While resting, I heard their conversation. All about trucks and tires and SUVs for wives.

So boring and empty.

Told my wife about it. "Now imagine dating them. I tried not to date truck men"

Pursuit of empathy is something that took me far to long to realize was important.

I'm still working on applying it in all / most situations.

Somehow, self preservation/ prioritization feels so normal.

The people that are easy to love and follow lead with empathy.

The men's steeple chase was very exciting.

I love the gamesmanship that Beemish always brings to the last 150m.

Mrs Davis on peacock was quite enjoyable. Silly, poignant and good art.

Good job, Tara Hernandez.

Every time I hear Laura Marling, I am filled with joy.

If she was a huge star, I'd believe it. Yet somehow, she isn't.

The worst part of @peacock sports is the delay in replay availability.

Is it silly to add three hours of driving tomorrow to visit two states for the first time?

I think that a great song placement was Davis Karsten Daniels' "Oh, Heaven Isn't Real" at the end of the @thisamericanlife.org episode about atheism.

David wrote the song as a praise hymn for atheists and it was perfect as a punctuation for that episode.

Someone didn't think to create a "your flight was cancelled and we booked you on a flight tomorrow" message at @southwestairlines.bsky.social

So we get "we call this you time".

Thanks #southwestairlines

I think it's a challenge to have someone in a non-transferable role in your life
1) realize they will never have the capacity for honesty and empathy that your chosen relationships do
2) spend time with them
3) give them honesty and empathy
4) accept that they can't without it being painful

"Ouch My Balls" TV from Idiocracy (2001) is now ChiveTV in gyms.

Social media has gone from people you know in real to being mostly news posts or people whose job is to post very interesting things.

What could have connected us...isn't.

I like the BeReal model of must post to see.

I really appreciate @propublica.org Many of their writings these days seem to be documenting how valuable aspects of government are...as they are being killed off.

NSF funded an engineering summer camp at the University of Alabama at Huntsville that I attended after my Sophomore year of high school that got me interested in a lifetime of problem solving and collaborative teamwork.

Really happy to be at the SMU Track and Field invitational. First home meet in 27 years!

Hopefully a step toward bringing back men's track too.
