About a year and a half ago, I was diagnosed as autistic Level 1, with mild ADHD. The impact it's had on the way I view myself, and how I perceive the world, has been striking. Being late-diagnosed has led to plenty of insights, and even more questions. Making art helps me cope. #art #audhd
Add some finer details with a Sharpie pen, spritz some Dullcote over the top, and you're good to go.
I've found a quick way to give a weathered look is to lay down base colors with acrylic paint markers, add some shading with water-based markers, and then blend it with a light-colored alcohol-based marker, which gives a grimy, aged quality to everything.
Exploring the "Scrapper" model further... Added balljoints to the shoulders and hips to allow for a little articulation and part-swapping, and painted in some detail with paint markers. #art #illustration #neurodivergent #adhd #autism #audhd #flowstate #mech #mecha #robots #scrappers
There are some good tutorials on Youtube that helped me a lot, like videos by Dave Reed and SouthernGFX.
Made adjustments to the robot's proportions and details, and then swapped in some parts from my "Brawler" mech to turn it into a "Scrapper"... #art #illustration #neurodivergent #adhd #autism #audhd #flowstate #mech #mecha #robots #nomadsculpt #scrappers
Here's a low-poly Scrapper I modeled in PolysketchVR. I took it into Blender to tweak some of the proportions and make it manifold for 3D printing. Then I took it into Nomad Sculpt for some quick renders. #art #illustration #audhd #flowstate #mech #mecha #robots #scrappers #polysketchvr #3dprinting
I've come to understand that I needed to approach it with some sort of novelty, some hook to keep the dopamine flowing, hence the VR and 3D printing. As a result, I've accomplished more with 3D in the last few months than I've ever managed to before, and the progress has been sustainable.
I spent decades trying to get comfortable with 3D modeling and sculpting, but it never quite stuck. I'd eventually get frustrated by the tedium, get bored and lose interest, and felt ashamed that I couldn't stick with it. Post-AuDHD diagnosis, I realized it was because of how my brain worked.
Mech doodle first pass made in VR with Gravity Sketch. I'm hoping I can get proficient enough with GS for it to be a useful tool in my 3D-printing endeavors. #art #illustration #neurodivergent #adhd #autism #audhd #flowstate #mech #mecha #robots #scrappers #gravitysketch #metaquest #vr
