Singing, clapping, and chanting together in class can: contribute to social cohesion and community, improve focused attention and sensitivity to the rhythms of language, accelerate reading acquisition, lift moods According to the neurobiologist Nina Kraus, "rhythmic synchrony"—like tapping to a beat together, or dancing together—leads to tighter human bonds based on "interpersonal synchrony." And researchers like Christina Zhao and Patricia Kuhl have found that musical skills "generalize to speech processing" and support the recognition of patterns and rhythms in language.
