One of the best things about working with GOTO is all the pretty things we can fit into its massive field of view

This comet is one to watch out for later this month as it reaches its closest approach to Earth, and its massive tail already stretches across the fov of two of our unit telescope

The routine all-sky survey of our GOTO telescopes at La Palma and Siding Spring uncover all sorts of unexpected objects, including comet C/2025 A6 in this nice image from October 4, spotted by Warwick U. team member @bendgodson.bsky.social. This object may be naked-eye visible later this month

Another astronomers telegram from GOTO! 🔭☄️

Last week we discovered a bright optical transient, likely a nova, close to the Large Magellanic Cloud.

It's currently around magnitude 12, so very easy to observe for those who are far south enough to see the LMC.

Got my first APOD today!

It’s maybe not my best image in a technical sense, but it does highlight a very cool transient event which you can see in the sky right now!

Bright supernova alert! SN 2025rbs in the galaxy NGC 7331 is peaking now around 11th magnitude, easily visible in small telescopes!

Discovered earlier this month by @goto-network.bsky.social, you can find out more about it in this recent post goto-observatory.org/bright-super...

Bright Supernova 2025rbs Discovered by GOTO
In the early hours of the 14th of July 2025, GOTO-N observed the spiral galaxy NGC 7331 and detected a faint new transient source located close to its centre. This source was assigned the name GOTO25e...

Visited Calar Alto observatory for the first time last week!

We were observing newly discovered supernovae with the 2.2m telescope, but it was the 3.5m Zeiss reflector that caught my attention. One of the coolest mounts and domes i’ve seen!

Comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS setting over our observatory at the end of last year. By far the most impressive comet of my adult life.
