Brilliant @nytimes.com article on the collaborative art making and homoeroticism of the PaJaMa artist trio, and their influence today.

As a gay ace, I love that the uni college where I’m living flies the #asexuality flag for #PrideMonth. We’ve had numerous calm weather days recently, so was hard to get a photo. I captured this one, flying to the left and not right. It’s not straight. It’s not conforming. I like that! Happy Pride!

#kentmere400 is a high speed, fine grain film. It offers a lower price point as well as good sharpness and a broad tonal range along with a wide exposure latitude. Making it a smart choice for beginners and for those returning to film.

I’ve been collecting 1950s bodybuilder magazines for a while now. These two front covers (1953 & 55) are by Arax of Paris. Like most physique photographers of the time he obscured his identity to avoid obscenity laws. Real name Krikor Djololian-Arax, he captured the male form from the 1930s to 70s.
My top 10 continued. Disclaimer: other great books also available! #LGBTHistoryMonth

1. The Sexual Perspective 🥇🌈🎨
A truly beautiful book exploring art through its production by gay artists, the ‘gay gaze’, social contexts and more. So much here of use to students and researchers at all levels. 💜
My top 10 continued. #LGBTHistoryMonth

2. Hard to Imagine 🥈🎞️📸
Thomas Waugh literally tells us as it is. It’s full on, and all the better for it! Incredibly well researched and well written. More early history than my no. 3, Fully Exposed. With my no. 1, it should be on everyone’s bookshelves.
My top 10 books, continued.

3. Fully Exposed 🥉📸📸
An absolute must for anyone exploring the history of male nude photography. I found this incredibly useful when researching the ‘artist aid’ nude photography of 1850s-80s, Eadweard Muybridge, and 1950s physique magazines.
My top 10 books for homosexuality in late 19th/early 20th century art, cont.

4. Queer British Art 🎨🌈
An absolute gem and future classic. Accompanied a 2017 Tate Britain exhibition. Well written and impressive for its diversity of content, revealing a rich history of queer art. 💛
Two from my uni library.

6. The Naked Portrait - 20thC art and photography by a previous lecturer of mine, Martin Hammer. Mapplethorpe, Wolfgang Tillmans, Nan Goldin, Alice Neel and more.

5. Nude Men - Great essays, wide ranging examples. Loving the Schiele, Anton Kolig, Richard Gerstl content.
My top 10 books, continued.

8. Art & Queer Culture
7. Museum Bums

Both of these are a joy to delve into. Informative, alive with social history and commentary, and beautifully illustrated. Plus, some of art’s greatest assets too! 🧡
My current top 10 books for exploring homosexuality in Western art history, late 19th/early 20th century. 🤩🌈📚

10. Queer X Design - The coded images, signs, symbols, tools used pre-1970s.

9. Art & Homosexuality - Brilliant title exploring Renaissance to modern day.
Artist Yuvi. Spotted in a local gallery window.

💜 “I’d heard of the term asexual, but dismissed it out of hand, because I assumed that meant a disgust and revulsion towards sex entirely; and what I felt wasn’t that” - Sarah Kenchington

Asexuality is a spectrum that answered a lifetime of questions
Asexuality is a spectrum, and all of us who fall somewhere on that spectrum have different relationships with sex and sexual attraction

It begins today!!

🏳️‍🌈 LGBT+ History Month matters. Our past shapes our future—without knowing our history, we can’t fight for our rights today. Visibility, education & progress go hand in hand. 📚✊ #LGBTHistoryMonth

Please sign and share the government petition Rights Beyond Borders to improve employment policies for international students. An increase to the cap on working hours and more flexibility for intermission would make UK study more achievable for so many.
