I read that at one time, Canadian cities were expanding electrified transit. Along came Ford and GM who offered up cheap diesel buses. To seal the deal they agreed to tear up track and electric infrastructure and pave the affected streets. I wish I could source this.

Typical bean counter in the article cited. Looks at the number of collisions, not the impact of lower speeds, assigns an acceptable rate of death, doesn’t account for injuries, nor the EMS, hospital or rehabilitation costs for those injured. FACT lower speeds save lives. Radar is a proven tool.
