i mean, as a trans woman, i'm inherently distrustful of legal systems, given how frequently they're set up specifically to abuse and criminalize marginalized people. why trust another country's likely flawed systems to determine a person's rights?

here's my offer for a compromise: the "path to citizenship" needs to be "oh, you want to stay in this country? cool, you're a citizen now." anything more onerous than that is morally abhorrent.
