Have you read any of her other books? If so, I’m curious how you’d rank this in comparison.

At first, I thought I could just rotate the hue of HSL colors and call it a day. Since then, I've learned about perceptual color spaces, OKLCH, Bezold-Brücke effect and I still can't always get good programmatic palettes 😅

But I built Color Palette Pro to help get us halfway there: colorpalette.pro
Color Palette Pro — A Synthesizer for Color Palettes
Generate customizable color palettes in advanced color spaces that can be easily shared, downloaded, or exported.

I understand the enormous pressure they must be facing to embed “AI capabilities” like Make, but as a long time user and customer it’s completely baffling

Oh I’ve fallen into every design trap there is. Fiddling with grids, font-size scales, colour systems. All derived from some magic ratio of course. It’s easy to do!

I always try and settle on type decisions first. It’s just so fundamental and can do a lot of heavy lifting.

You don’t have to make a ton of rules for yourself, but you have to make some. Simple is good! The key is to stick with combinations that work once you find them.

Think about language and start locking up key phrases in type. What does a shout versus a whisper look like? What about long body text? Try integrating type + image, colour, and scale variations. Validate choices by trying to quickly make elements you’ll need like a feature card, lead-in, or a CTA.

Similar to what jamie said about content, I think it can help to focus on visual identity before trying to design the page.

Start with a couple elements that resonate with you or feel right for the project. Type, colour, etcetera. Don’t overthink it. Get to sketching with a couple choices asap!

Looking good. It might be worth doing a quick safelight “coin” test if you haven’t already. And don’t forget some speakers for music!

Upgraded this React Native project to Expo SDK 54 to try Liquid Glass Bottom Tabs. It’s SO different. I like it.

This definitely helped me wrap my head around using @tanstack.com DB with a sync engine like @electric-sql.com

Time to pull this off the back burner
Just finished adding processing instructions for every black and white film currently being produced to Darkroom Toolkit

One step closer to completing all the data entry. Chemistry formulas are up next.
