can't yet assess Landa's argument that fascism arose from "the inherent tension between the political dimension of the liberal order and its economic one" but my feeling is that if we reduce the latter tension merely to the labor-capital contradiction, fascism's race and gender ideology is mystified

excerpt from Ishay Landa's book "The Apprentice's Sorceror: Liberal Tradition and Fascism", which reads as follows: "I will claim that fascism was not an outsider to the liberal, “open society,” but in fact an intimate insider to that society, which was not particularly open, either. Far from being the antithesis of fascism, its absolute Other, the liberal order significantly contributed to fascism, informing many of its far reaching manifestations. I will attempt to make the case that most of the pernicious and extremist aspects of fascism, aspects usually seen as attacking liberalism—repudiation of democracy; dictatorship; assault on rationalism andscientific objectivity; propaganda; chauvinistic nationalism; imperialist and racial war—are historically unthinkable outside of the liberal framework. Fascism was an organic product of developments largely (that is to say: not entirely) from within liberal society and ideology. It was an extreme attempt at solving the crisis of liberalism, breaking out of its aporia, and saving the bourgeoisie from itself."

Shit like this is what I'm talking about. Just the latest example of someone who doesn't know anything about the blockades, understand their purpose, or see their success. I've seen ICE turn around and not enter a neighborhood. I saw it with my own two eyes, on the ground in Minneapolis.
Rev Magdalen But what were people expecting blockades to even do? You're stopping and checking every vehicle and then you find one that's ICE and what? You just tell them no they can't pass and they turn around and go away? It's like "controlling space with fire" don't see how it would work.

I've also seen a lot of weird hand-wringing and anxiety about how butch/femme is 'basically heterosexuality'. Which is presumably why so many of them think She-ra is 'peak lesbian rep'.

Very cool that in the winter my landlord pays someone to come briefly wave a leafblower at our front lawn and then sit in a truck for an hour every few weeks, yet when the grass dies we have to pay to reseed it, the lawn being our responsibility to maintain.

BASH BACK statement on our collaboration with Prisoners for Palestine:
We are proud to be collaborating with @Prisoners4Palestine, the prisoner-led collective that represents those who have been detained by the British state in their struggle for Palestinian liberation. We have signed their open letter in support of the ongoing hunger strike, and share their stated goals: • Shut down Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit Systems, with which the UK closely collaborates; • End the proscription of Palestine Action; • End censorship in prisons; • Release illegal detainees on immediate bail; • The right to a fair trial, by releasing all documents relevant to their cases, including those documenting meetings between British and Israeli state officials, the British police, the attorney general, and Elbit Systems representatives. The struggle for Palestinian liberation and political prisoners is one we share as trans people. As state repression of political dissent against genocide and collaboration escalates, the tools of the state come down ever harder on all those who are criminalised, vilified, and marginalised. We remember Toni Asik, a victim of the transphobic abuses of Sodexo staff in HMP Bronzefield, where the first hunger strikers are incarcerated. When we took action against Sodexo in Leeds, we did so to remember him, and impose his memory on the system that killed him. Today (20th November) marks Trans Day of Remembrance, but it is also a day, as every day, of resistance. As the ever more authoritarian British state abuses and kills its captives with impunity, we ask: what would you do? We do as we must: we fight. As direct actionists ourselves, we share a kinship with the Prisoners for Palestine, brave opponents to the authoritarian wave that has captured the UK, now putting their bodies on the line to demand the freedom they always deserved. We recognise the twin threat posed by genocidal collaboration and prisoner abuse, which a threat to everyone’s liberation. BASH BACK will continue to fight, in solidarity and rage, against the state and private companies that exclude us, torture us, imprison us, and abuse us. For true liberation. For all of us.
