The voice of brewers & pubs. Our members brew 90% of British beer and look after 20,000 of our pubs. 🔗https://linktr.ee/beerandpub
Two weeks of driving our policy asks ahead of the Budget: the giant pint on College Green made a big splash, our letter led the Sunday Express, and Emma joined the TaxPayers’ Alliance podcast. We need rates reform, a beer duty cut and action on regulatory costs to support pubs.

Last week our Long Live the Local campaign marched on Westminster for a fairer deal for pubs.

With 9-in-10 MPs backing the sector, we’re calling on the Chancellor for real business rates reform, a beer duty cut, and action on rising costs.

Time to back the Great British pub. 🍻

Our latest survey with our sister trade bodies reveals that the majority of businesses will be forced to take drastic action if next week's Budget does not deliver.

With one week to go, we're calling on the Chancellor to support a sector integral to Britain's cultural and economic fabric.

Pubs power sport. ⚽

They bring fans together, back grassroots clubs, sponsor kits and give communities a place to belong.

We support PubAid’s Pubs Power Sport report and call for fair business rates, lower beer duty and VAT reform.

Back pubs. Back sport.

Today our Long Live The Local campaign marched on Downing St to hand in our Three-Point Plan.

On behalf of approx 250,000 supporters, we and hardworking publicans called on the Government to protect our pubs and pints at the Budget.

Of course, a giant pint glass helped press home the message...

It was a privilege to hear Henry Merewether speak on Remembrance Day about the enduring links between hospitality and our Armed Forces.

Our CEO Emma McClarkin spoke to LBC's Vanessa Baffoe about the BBPA signing the Armed Forces Covenant.

The House of Commons Committee on Energy Security & Net Zero published its first report on energy costs.

Evidence from us and Admiral Taverns highlighted pubs’ rising energy bills.

This is a key step toward a fairer, more transparent energy sector.

The proposed rise in betting taxes will put extra pressure on pubs, many of which rely on income from gaming machines to stay afloat.

It could cost landlords around £200m a year and risks more closures.

With six pubs a day already at risk, we need meaningful business rates reform.

Thank you to @lizjarvis.bsky.social MP for standing up for our sector. 📣

Ahead of the Budget it's important for the government to recognise the irreplaceable role of the pub for high streets up-and-down the country, including Liz's constituency of Eastleigh.

This week, our CEO Emma McClarkin OBE penned an op-ed for LBC following our most recent analysis on how pub closures are fuelling Britain's loneliness epidemic.

It was an absolute pleasure to meet Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Employment Rights and Consumer Protection, @katedeardenmp.bsky.social . We discussed the challenges the sector has faced over the past few years, as well as the significant economic and social value of the beer and pub industry.

One in three Brits feel lonelier when their local pub closes, according to new BBPA research.

We're calling on the Government to recognise this in the Budget by reducing the regulatory burden on the sector through meaningful business rates reform and cuts to beer duty.

It was great to hear Tom Watson discuss the Licensing Hours Extension Bill in Parliament last week.

At a time when pubs are facing high costs, increasing footfall and boosting growth by extending opening hours and overhauling the outdated licensing regime will be vital to reducing pub closures.

Our new research with Ipsos in the UK reveals that 9 in 10 MPs hold a favourable view of the hospitality sector.

This is why, at the upcoming Budget, the government must deliver business rates reform to which could save hundreds of pubs and thousands of jobs.
October 24, 2025 at 11:08 AM
This week, Kate Dearden MP joined BBC Radio 4's You and Yours to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the beer and pub sector.

Meaningful business rates reform, cuts to beer duty, and action to address soaring employment costs would provide the lifeline our sector needs to thrive.
October 23, 2025 at 11:23 AM
The Chancellor has only 5 weeks to save 5,000 jobs.

Our research with Cebr shows that without a 20p cut in business rates for pubs, 40% of at-risk venues could close, risking 5000+ jobs.

We’re calling on the Government to act at the upcoming Budget and give our pubs the support they deserve.

The All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group is right: our pubs have long been overlooked and overburdened. 🍺

This is a once in a generation Budget - the Chancellor must use it to back pubs and, in doing so, back jobs and communities.

The new EPR regime is expected to cost brewers an eye-watering £124 million and pubs will be charged twice for recycling the same glass bottle. 📈

Government must use the Budget to review EPR costs so the sector can flourish, and customers, pubs, and brewers won't be further burdened.
