#NowWatching It's a Wonderful Life

Now that it’s finally December, I'll be spending the next fifteen days watching a bunch of Christmas films, with some old favorites and new ones I've never seen before. Up first is a classic I haven't seen in years.

Happy heavenly birthday to Julee Cruise, who was most well-known for her song, "Falling", which was used as the theme for Twin Peaks. She appeared on the show as the Roadhouse singer and reprised the role in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and Twin Peaks: The Return.

You may notice the octopus has six tentacles as opposed to eight. The reason for this is that Sam Katzman, the film’s executive producer, only gave Ray Harryhausen enough money to animate six of the eight tentacles. As of 2025, all that remains is the head. #SinnfulSunday

Producer Charles H. Schneer said the idea for the film was inspired by the first hydrogen bomb explosion in the Marshall Islands, saying he felt if some creature came out of the deep "and then destroyed the Golden Gate Bridge, that would be a hell of a film." #SinnfulSunday

Since city officials refused to allow the filmmakers to shoot on the real Golden Gate Bridge, producer Charles H. Schneer put the camera on the back of a bakery truck and drove it back and forth over the bridge several times to get the footage needed. #SinnfulSunday

Dr. John Carter, the marine biologist who identifies the tissue as belonging to a giant octopus, is named after John Carter, the main protagonist of Edgar Rice Burroughs' A Princess of Mars. #SinnfulSunday

To keep shooting costs low, director Robert Gordon shot inside an actual submarine, both above and underwater, using handheld cameras. #SinnfulSunday

#NowWatching It Came from Beneath the Sea

Tonight on #SinnfulSunday, my co-host @sinnful-redhead.bsky.social and I are hosting a 1950s sci-fi horror flick about a giant octopus. The last time I saw this was when it was shown on Svengoolie in 2019.

Happy birthday to Cherie Currie, who is most well-known for being the lead vocalist of the Runaways. She is also known for playing Annie Mallick in Foxes, Dana in Parasite, Sara in Twilight Zone: The Movie, and Miss Skylace in Spirit Riser.

#NowWatching Jack-O

Recently, this film was shown on The Last Drive-in, but I missed out on it because I had work the following morning. Just from the trailer, I know this is going to be a craptastic fun fest.

Happy birthday to Howie Mandel, who is most well-known for voicing Gizmo in Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch, creating and voicing Bobby and Howard Generic on Bobby's World, hosted Deal or No Deal for seven seasons, and being a judge on America's Got Talent.

#NowWatching The Mean One

Tonight, the #FFBMovieNight folks and I are checking out a slasher film that asks the age old question: What if the Grinch from How the Grinch Stole Christmas became a killer? From the trailer and poster, it looks dumb but kind of fun.

Happy birthday to Thom Matthews, who is most well-known for playing Tommy Jarvis in the Friday the 13th franchise, Freddy Hanscom in The Return of the Living Dead, Joey Hazel in Return of the Living Dead Part II, and “Brick” Bardo in Bloodmatch, among others.

#NowWatching Game Of Death

Even though today is Thanksgiving, I wanted to celebrate what would have been Bruce Lee’s eighty-fifth birthday by watching the last film Bruce was involved with before his passing in 1973.

Happy 40th anniversary to Rocky IV, the fourth installment in the Rocky franchise. After realizing that Rocky's previous opponents had loud, animated personalities, Dolph Lundgren came up with the idea of giving Ivan Drago a much more intimidating presence.

#NowWatching Fist of Fury

Since tomorrow is Bruce Lee’s birthday, I wanted to pay tribute to him by revisiting his second film, which came out a year after The Big Boss. I haven't seen this film in ages, but because it’s Bruce Lee, I’m going to have a great time rewatching it.

Happy 22nd anniversary to The Haunted Mansion, based on the Disneyland attraction of the same name. One of the singing busts is modeled after Paul Frees, who voiced the Ghost Host, the disembodied narrator of the theme park ride.

#NowWatching Weapons

Like 28 Years Later, Weapons was a recent movie I knew next to nothing about, but was excited to see it after hearing a lot of folks praise it. Can it live up to all the hype? Time to find out.

Happy heavenly birthday to Noel Neill, who was most well-known for playing Lois Lane in the 1948 Superman serial, Atom Man vs. Superman, and Adventures of Superman, Ella Lane in Superman (1978), and Gertrude Vanderworth in Superman Returns, among others.

#NowWatching M3GAN 2.0

I thought M3GAN was a pretty fun movie, so when I heard a sequel was coming out, I was intrigued by it, despite the mixed reviews, since I thought the first was a one-and-done deal. Will it live up to the original? Time to find out.

Happy birthday to Elizabeth Copeland, who is most well-known for portraying Beth Phoenix in WWE from 2006-2012. She is a former WWE Divas Champion, a three-time WWE Women's Champion, and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.

#NowWatching 28 Years Later

When it comes to modern-day zombie movies, I loved 28 Days Later and I thought 28 Weeks Later was pretty solid. Time to see if the third entry in the series will be better or worse than the other two.
November 23, 2025 at 12:28 PM
Happy heavenly birthday to Harpo Marx, the second-oldest of the Marx Brothers comedy troupe. He wore a curly, reddish-blonde wig and did not speak; instead, he blew a horn or whistled to communicate, since his comic style was more visual than verbal.

Here are some of the many cosplays I saw at The Nostalgia Con. As a Rogue and Gambit fan, it warmed my heart to see my two favorite mutants represented at this event.

Here's my haul from The Nostalgia Con. Since I bought the VIP pass, I got a free X-Men poster, a t-shirt, a sticker, a pin, a patch, a lanyard, a drawstring bag, and a huge mouse mat.
