Scholars & pundits have focussed a lot on the electoral demise of center left, but in doing so we paid to little attention to the electoral problems of the center right.

Case-in-points here not only British conservatives or center right in France, but increasingly also the center right in Spain.

The training data for generative AI is far from the sum total of human knowledge. As well as oral cultures, many languages are absent, creating significant blindspots in AI’s understanding of human experience
Generative AI has access to a small slice of human knowledge | Aeon Essays
Huge swathes of human knowledge are missing from the internet. By definition, generative AI is shockingly ignorant too

"Part of the misunderstanding of the deepfake threat stems from the idea that it is a problem of bad information, rather than a problem of desire... The deepfakes proliferating across far-right social media... are fascistic dream machines." via @lrb.co.uk .

The anxieties that fuel the far-right obsession with IQ metrics and autism gesture to eugenic tropes. These are not good-faith contentions on public health science, but a fixation with narrow and reified versions of what intelligence and normality are.

Ah, aquella época en la que había ministros medianamente decentes que renunciaban por no aguantar compartir gabinete con delincuentes.

Claro, qué honor vas a querer preservar, si no tienes uno.

“The trend in recent years has been for the great majority of extremist-related murders to be connected to some form of right-wing extremism. That is also true for 2024: for the third year in a row, all the murders identified were tied to right-wing extremism.”

3/ This isn’t a new diagnosis. But it’s gaining frightening currency. I’m not nostalgic for old public spheres—but what has replaced them is fostering a dangerous inability to find healthy ways to live and deal with problems together.

2/ For false narratives of “ethnic replacement,” IQ taxonomies, or gender inequality to shape thousands of people’s worldviews, you need a medium that enables obfuscation. A medium that corrodes even partially shared practices of factuality and reasoning.

1/ Seeing the far-right march in London this Saturday, I’m increasingly convinced that social media, in its current forms, is built to amplify reactionary sensibilities. Yes, other social and economic forces are at play—but they’re now inescapably digitally mediated.

“Militant, nationalistic, white supremacist violent extremism has increased in the United States. In fact, the number of far-right attacks continues to outpace all other types of terrorism and domestic violent extremism.”

The Trump DOJ scrubbed this study from their website.

Sobre la violencia política comparativa. No, US no se está "colombianizando" o "ecuatorizando". Hay una larga historia en US de magnicidios, tiroteos, intentos de asesinato y violencia terrorista (como la del KKK).
