I'll be studying behavioral economics, a field my university doesn't really offer, but a number of universities (particularly the Chicago Booth School of Business) do. Frankly, it's the field of economics that got me *interested* in economics in the first place.

The big one in the field of economics is research, but I worry that this is the area of independent study I'm least equipped for, as I don't have an education in behavioral economics yet. So I could run experiments on the endowment effect, or how people's utility curve inverts when avoiding losses,

So then there's essay writing, which I could do on Misbehaving by Richard Thaler, or Tversky and Kahneman's paper on Prospect Theory (the paper that kind of started the whole field of behavioral economics), but essay writing isn't really what the economics field does.

Like, the firmest idea I've got is "constructing" a course for the department (PowerPoints, homework, quizzes, and exams - such that a professor could run the course) as a way to develop my own familiarity with the subject, but I'm not finding any evidence that that's really a thing?

The professor I'll be meeting Wednesday is interested in my independent study, but I don't want to disappoint her by going into the meeting unprepared, haha. I know that, as a self-directed course, the vast majority of the work will be my own efforts, but I worry about what she's expecting.
