Taking off from Las Vegas and there’s no better window seat in the world for it. The Strip looks incredible from above from the towering Sphere to the Bellagio fountains and the endless desert stretching beyond. Every takeoff here feels like a show of its own.

Over New Guinea, a flash of silver slices the sky. This is “Jandina III”, Captain Jay T. Robbins’ P-38 Lightning. After decades lost in the jungle, it was recovered, restored by Ezell Aviation, and now flies again with the Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum.

I think this was the best-looking aircraft at the static display, the Piper M700 Fury. It’s powered by a 700 horsepower PT6A-52, cruises around 300 knots, and now comes with Autoland and autothrottle. Faster than the M600, this is one seriously capable turboprop.
