🇨🇦 (He/Him) I sometimes let my love of attention override common sense. I also write things and eat snacks. https://authorandrewbutters.substack.com
I don't want to brag, but for the second time in my life, I have successfully plugged a USB in on the first try.

A common question when people find out I'm a writer:
"What genre do you write?"

My response:
"I have stories trapped inside my head, begging to get out. I don't feel the need to demand they fit a certain genre before I set them free."

I've been taking my daughter to hockey games since she was little, and today I am taking her (at 23 years old) to our first @thepwhl.com game! @pwhlcharge.bsky.social vs. @bostonfleet.com playing in Halifax. The 2.5 hour drive each way will be worth it, I'm sure!

There needs to be a word that describes the deep, sorrowful disappointment you feel when you're eating something you love, but are also otherwise distracted, and you realize that there's nothing left to eat. The Japanese or Germans should have a word for this. Linguists, what say you?

I just had a “senior editor” from “Simon & Schuster” ask about my book Known Order Girls. I'm sure that they emailed me from an AOL address with their name spelled wrong isn't suspicious at all. If you are interested, though, here's a link.

That's not me in the morning, but definitely me once my day has started. My brain is like an antique lawnmower. Sometimes it takes a while to start, but once it gets going, it's unstoppable (and if you leave it unattended, there's no telling what will happen).

McDonald's gave me a Filet-O-Fish instead of a McChicken, so I went in to exchange it. On my way out I said, "Merry Christ Year!" So, yeah. How'd your 2025 end?

I've seen examples of this across various demographics, including gender, country, culture, sport, and more. Is there a pattern, or am I seeing something that's not there?
