EU fines? Just business as usual for Google. At the Strasbourg Plenary yesterday I addressed that:

👉 We need proper digital taxation for third country companies. The EU’s market must be harmonised and we have to put our own companies first when choosing critical technologies.

Today in the ITRE committee, we voted to end the purchase of Russian gas. I voted in favor – and the decision passed.

👉 EU countries should have acted years ago to clean up their energy systems.
👉 The EU must commit to phasing out all Russian energy.
👉 It’s time to stop funding Putin’s war.

This afternoon, I gave the opening remarks at Aula Europe and Pure Storage’s event, which focused on the EU’s digital sovereignty, AI leadership and data centers.

👉 Withdraw the CSAM proposal — it threatens cybersecurity, encryption and citizens’ privacy. We can protect children online without breaking message security.

€2,9 billion additional guarantees will unlock up to €60 billion in private investments across Europe.

In the ITRE Committee meeting today I raised two key points:
👉 We can no longer give away our data for free to competitor companies in the US and China.
👉 The EU needs to answer how quickly we can bring up our consumer market for purely European alternatives to Microsoft with high interoperability.
