I love coming across a comic that perfectly describes how I feel right now in this first month of my PhD! Thats me!!!!!!! Give it a couple years and my hair might be the same colour too

A fantastic week at #COSPAR25 in Nicosia, Cyprus where I presented at my first international conference! An absolutely amazing experience. Thank you to everyone involved for making it such a fascinating and memorable week.

Tl;dr: if some lifeforms were going around terraforming planets, we could detect them* even without a working definition of "life" or "habitability"

Scafell Pike, Lake District. The tallest mountain in England.

It is important to remember that whilst we search for habitable worlds out there, much of what we are looking for is right here on our beautiful Earth already. We shouldnโ€™t take it for granted!

Beautiful sights on a beautiful day!๐ŸŒ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿช

Take a look at my group's new paper on distinguishing biological and non-biological tubules of iron-oxide, led by Melanie Podbielski. Yes, the title is a Star Trek reference...

Happy to share my first ever published paper (as a contributor). The product of my placement year just over 2 years ago. Looking at fossilised organic/inorganic tubules on Mars.

So honoured to have been part of this team.

My new blog post for the socio-legal studies association is up about planetary protection and surface space waste!

Is it possible to leave no trace in space? Should we strive for it anyway? Why?

A video from a year ago, during my undergrad degree. Little did I know at the time Iโ€™d be doing a masterโ€™s, let alone a PhD in Space law, come October.

Would recommend Bio w/Sci&Soc to any young scientist for the academic and personal development opportunities.

Many space lawyers do bring astrobiology into their discussion. So it depends from what angle you need it. Charles Cockell comes to mind with some of his philosophical arguments considering microbes or extraterrestrial liberty.

really good thread, recently reread Dicks Biological Unniverse as Im writing a bid on the legal implications of finding ET and thought a lot the history if 'false detection' of extrasolar planets. Need to take the position of highly skeptical - risk seeing a version of the Martian Canals...

Was back in Edinburgh this week, attending a workshop about outer space from an ecological economics perspective! So interesting to discuss themes like sci-fi, space mining, settlement and ET with a fresh lens and with new people too!

Also got to see the lovely @astr0mia.bsky.social too!!

Received an offer this morning for my dream PhD!!!! Extraterrestrial life and space law combined. How exciting and mind blowing that this project even exists and the fact that I get to do it is even more exciting! Got to finish the masterโ€™s first but so excited for this next chapter!

So lovely to come across a starter pack with my name on it among so many great researchers in Astrobiology.

Donโ€™t see packs pop up too often anymore but if you are interested in Astrobiology, I can recommend this pack!! ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ”ญ
Hello to all my new geoscientist (and geoscientist-curious) followers!

Please let me know of any researchers/scicommers/artists/etc. who are missing from the astrobiology starter pack, including yourself!

Also super important to recognise that this might become a reality as our dark skies are becoming ever-threatened with the increase of satellites & mega-constellations! Whether it is astronomers or night sky enjoyers, there is a lot on the lineโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ก๐ŸŒŒ
