i feel like a lot of specifically australian language is very informal as well which might not lend itself to books unless it's specifically written to be set in modern australia so that makes sense

i am curious what is similar between australian and american writing which british writing doesn't have though. i don't really read published books that much anymore

*was going to specify white australian culture bc that came from britain but hit the character limit

there definitely is a degree of homogenisation happening though, since the internet era, where most media is american so language is slowly shifting in that direction (i notice this irl too)

i'm not really sure what australians write like and what context this is in but i notice a far more marked difference between american writers. like i can tell if something is written by an american pretty much immediately. while british and australian cultures haven't been separate for *that* long

yk something i've noticed with recent video games that have better/more inclusive CC is that u still have to pick from a feminine or masculine base. would be cool to see a new high-profile game coming out that just has sliders for everything, a slider between masc & fem body shapes + faces

i wish more areas in ffxiv had different accents than just british. ishgard should've been french. garlemald should've been slavic. gyr abania... i'm not sure exactly which country it's based off but it feels weird for them to be british as well
