I also had the opportunity to meet Doug Lemov. To meet someone who has helped shape and influence my teaching career is something I’ll never forget. I’m so grateful I got the chance to tell him how brilliant he is @leadeast100.bsky.social

Lastly, yesterday was a pretty special day. Starting at Walt Whitman middle school, we saw such warmth in the relationships between staff and pupils. One class moved me to tears. It was magical to see @leadeast100.bsky.social

Wednesday saw us visit Dream Charter school in East Harlem. We visited so many lessons and understood more about the curriculum, routines and relationships between staff and pupils. What a beautiful, inspiring building to be in!

We also visited Kipp Beyond and heard from Joe Negron about his journey in leading his school. As a principal, he doesn’t have an office and wears a back pack so he always has everything he needs with him.

What a pleasure to meet @douglemov.bsky.social alongside @ashleymartin26.bsky.social and the East100 cohort.

This man has had a bigger impact on my teaching practice than anyone else I could name. Ratio rules.

This week I have been fortunate enough to visit some of the best schools in New York City through @LeadE100 programme. Yesterday started with a trip to Uncommon, North Star. This visit has transformed my thinking on how to lead assemblies. Experiencing ‘circle’ was so powerful!

Exactly this. Let’s hope they don’t delve into writing songs about wheels on any other mode of transport. Keep it niche.

It was a huge pleasure this evening to hear from Cat Jones on her doctoral research on parental engagement.

Some brilliant discussion with @leadeast100.bsky.social leaders on how they can bolster working with parents in the schools they lead.

A tricky area, but huge potential for kids outcomes.

I couldn’t be happier or more grateful that our children’s future is in the hands and hearts of people like @ashleymartin26.bsky.social

A very special week in the company of restless, kind and thoughtful school leaders.
Last week was one of my favourite weeks I’ve had in teaching. Learning from incredible school leaders and visiting some of the best schools in the country was so inspiring. I’ve loved discussing the visit with our amazing @leadeast100.bsky.social and the very brilliant @jonhutchinson.bsky.social

Not @suchmo83.bsky.social making so much sense again…. This man! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I often come across suggestions that teachers need to be experts in children's literature and, crucially, that significant amounts of professional development time should be devoted to achieving this aim.

Let's explore this idea a little because I think aspects of it are problematic. 🧵🪡

It's also an opportunity to hang out with the phenomenal @ashleymartin26.bsky.social and an excellent reminder of how great it is to make friends on social media then get to know them in real life!

I’ve had a wonderful day with Cohort 1 of East100 in Cambridge.

There’s been so much rich experience & expertise in leading schools in the east of England.

Excited for the next year together as they prepare for their first headships & coordinate to eradicate educational disadvantage in the region.

@lwilliamsjones.bsky.social talking us through phased, strategic implementation and the barriers we face. Loved how he shared concrete examples of how this has worked in his setting, inspiring us to think about how this can work on our own. Thank you! Insightful and amazing as always

Loved this from @charleyo.bsky.social and Kevin Latham today hitting us with all that’s going on behind the scenes at The Sutton Trust and how schools can make a difference through changing their admissions policies. Thoroughly enjoyed this, thank you!

Packet rice, chicken breast in the oven with veggies (smoked paprika, cumin, chilli powder, garlic and a bit of honey) for 30 mins on 180. Add some spinach to bulk it out. Lasts me 4 days and I’ll do a sandwich/pasta day 5. I’d do a different combo the week after and alternate. Tray bake for the win

This, this and this again. Build those relationships with parents. It’s so fundamental in creating trust and support 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
TEACHING MICRO TIP 9

In the first week, send as many texts home to kids’ parents as you possibly can.

Tell them something ace that they did.

Aim for five a day. Especially ‘quiet’ kids or those who have got lots of negative home comms from school in the past.
