The real threat to Cracker Barrel isn’t a new logo; it’s Buc-ees.
Walter Johnson’s River of Dark Dreams: Slavery and Empire in the Cotton Kingdom is the history we should have been taught. Completely altered my understanding of enslavement. You will never see an antebellum house the same way after reading this book.

A Chorus Line opened on Broadway 50 years ago today. The show is often celebrated as a love letter to dancers—a tribute to the unsung heroes of musical theater. But the full story is messier. 🧵
Fun Fack!
The ‘dog days’ of summer get their name due to their association with the Dog Star, Sirius, found in the constellation Canis Major.

The first visible rising of Sirius occurs during the hot stretch from early July to early September.

Woof.

I keep thinking about the ancient concept of hospitality, what it means to invite people into your house. The White House is our nation’s house; it doesn’t belong to anybody but the American people. To see it abused yesterday is such an insult to all Americans. That’s not how we welcome an ally.
Oh how beautiful. Gosh.
This is your reminder to sing Pink Pony Club again even though you don’t want to.
Massive burst of energy for knitting, it’s like I invented it or something. When’s the last time I woke up and knit in my PJs? Maybe knitting will save us all. Or at least set us up with a pile of handknits, right?
Two words: do this!

Peat bog in northern Scotland looks real good right about now.
Half a sleeve from glory on my 4 Letter Sweater. It says SURE but now I’m wondering if I should go with SURF and move to Hawaii or something.
Mesmerizing at the Cooper Hewitt: the legacy of early 19th-century panoramic wallpaper, seen through the eyes of Amie Siegel. Her quiet film landed hard for me: beware easy nostalgia, preciousness. www.thomasdanegallery.com/artists/337
What’s on your needles? I’m blissed out on a skein of Neighborhood Fiber’s mohair/silk. A long floaty river of burnt orange stockinette on a size 8 is really doing it for me.
It’s 10 degrees outside at the bird feeders, and I don’t know whether those bluebirds, cardinals, purple finches, tufted titmice, and yellow bellied sapsuckers know it, but they’re making my day. Feeding birds is the quick way to a mood boost.
