Annoying to watch it happen. I'm hoping they flew up, saw that the tide was dropping and simply decided they might as well head out into the harbour to feed for a bit
asharpephotography.bsky.social
The birds panicking as these 5 kite surfers came in way too close. They couldn't settle as they'd immediately panic again. As a results the godwits, all the spoonbills and half the avocets now left the lagoon @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social @footprintecology.bsky.social

AE. That's it, spoonbill AE is back.

Now add on NHB9, NB2V, NBN2, kites surfers have come in very close and causing absolute panic now on the lagoon @harbourbirds.bsky.social

asharpephotography.bsky.social
Excitement on the lagoon as a pair of Ravens tagteams and killed a young herring gull. Chasing it around the lagoon but eventually got it and now plucking it at the rear @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
asharpephotography.bsky.social
I counted 108 spoonbills this am on brownsea but think some are hiding elsewhere across the lagoon they're all off feeding around @harbourbirds.bsky.social
asharpephotography.bsky.social
Seem to be more each year along that road
asharpephotography.bsky.social
On the way to shaftsbury from blandford. But before the Compton Abbas airfield one field by the road has 15 red kites flying down low circling. Wonder if the farmer was harvesting but also lots of pheasants out that way right now @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
asharpephotography.bsky.social
The kids have been locked off the patch now, so Mr and Mrs W have reclaimed it for the winter
asharpephotography.bsky.social
That should be reported, far as I know godwitd are not a permitted species?
asharpephotography.bsky.social
still cant believe in a harbour labelled a spa, ramsar, sssi, sac that they still allow this to happen

Short visit to Culpeper dish this morning.

About 25 crossbills in various flock sizes largest being ten birds.
Pipits, woodlarks yellowhammers, lots of house martins, bullfinch, chaffinch, lots of tits, treecreeper, nuthatches. Other typical woodland birds @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
asharpephotography.bsky.social
They will target nests of birds like pigeons and corvids n such. Typical small birds not as much
asharpephotography.bsky.social
Oh yeah not sad to see it, but curious never had this the last few years
