We have been waiting for this day all year... Kirwin & Simpson have delivered our beautiful new seats!

The countdown is now on before we reopen our doors in just a few week's time. We're so excited to welcome you all back.
🎭❤️ We've missed you... But don't worry, the brand-new brochure for our reopening season is here (and Public Booking is now open!).

Cambridge Arts Theatre Trust Limited is a registered charity, no. 1069912.
We want to give courage and opportunity to the next. Donate to name a seat in our beautifully refurbished auditorium and support the second phase of the theatre’s transformational redevelopment.
⭐🎭 From Ian McKellen to Emma Thompson, Olivia Colman to Stephen Fry, many generations of trailblazing performers, writers and producers have found their calling at The Arts Theatre.
There's never been a more exciting time to join our team. Applications are now open for six positions ahead of our reopening in November!

Last week we had an exciting Production Meeting for this year's panto, Sleeping Beauty! ✨

Here's our fantastic Set Designer Ian Westbrook, who designs beautiful cloths of Cambridge locations for us. You can also see our model box (a mini replica of our stage and set design !).
It's amazing to see how similar the passageway looks today compared to the 1950s! You can spot a sign for the first Arts Theatre restaurant, and also a 'RAC' sign, which we're a little unsure about. Can any of our followers shed some light as to what this was?
We've dug through the theatre's archive to uncover some hidden gems... Here's a photo of St Edward's Passage back in 1957, which was kindly sent to us by a customer.

This photograph was taken by Lionel Harris. It won first place in the Maidenhead Photographic Society's monthly competition.
Our Technical team accepted a very exciting delivery last week... New lighting equipment for our soon-to-be transformed auditorium! 👏

This is a MAC Viper XIP, a movable light that we can use for general lighting and follow spots, and as you can see from the background - the delivery was a big one!
Join the team behind Cambridge’s best-loved pantomime!

We’re looking for enthusiastic, experienced, and collaborative professionals to join our dedicated team for the run of Sleeping Beauty 2025/26.

Next up in our 'Lost Property' series... AKA all of the strange discoveries we unearth during our redevelopment project.

Recently our Boxes have been dismantled, and panelling was removed. Buried behind the panels our team discovered blue decorative wallpaper, which we believe is from the 1930s!
On Tuesday we welcomed the Mayor of Cambridge Dinah Pounds to officially place our 2025 Time Capsule!

We're hiring ✨🎭

The Arts Theatre is undergoing a transformational redevelopment and a once-in-a-generation project. As we look to the future, we're entering a bold new chapter - there's never been a more exciting time to join us.

In 1996 the Town Crier published this article and photograph showing Arts Theatre staff and the building team with the time capsule - we can't wait to do the same in a couple of weeks!
The power of social media! After announcing our Time Capsule project, a follower (who worked here during the 1990s) told us about a time capsule they'd hidden during a previous refurbishment, which we had no idea about! We chatted, dug through an archive... and here it is.
Next up in our 'Lost Property' series... AKA all of the strange discoveries we unearth during our redevelopment project.

A lovely customer found and donated a wonderful collection of old Arts Theatre tickets, which we believe are from the 1940s!
But first we want to hear from YOU... What should we include in our time capsule? How can we preserve the history of our theatre and communicate with theatregoers of the future?

Please comment and let us know your ideas, or email [email protected] by Friday 13 June.
Guess what? We're hiding a time capsule! 🎭✨

To celebrate our incredible redevelopment project we will be placing a time capsule underneath the auditorium seating in our newly redesigned Circle, in the hope that it'll remain unseen and be discovered in decades to come.
As always, we look to our social media followers to shed some light! Can anyone give us any information or memories from working at the Arts Theatre during this period who may know the story of this photograph?
Unfortunately we don't have a note of the year either, but clues are hidden in the photo! The left hand poster was for Alan Ayckbourn's play Henceforward..., which was written in 1987. The right hand poster was for Alan Bennett's comedy Habeas Corpus, which toured starring Julian Glover in 1988.
We've dug through the theatre's archive to uncover some hidden gems... Here's a pair of staff selling theatre posters at an Arts Theatre stall. Exact location? We don't know!
Even though we're currently closed, we're still celebrating our year-round commitment to Captioned Performances this #DeafAwarenessWeek (5-11 May). 🎭 Until we reopen, you can visit the @stagetext.bsky.social website for #CaptionedTheatre across the country.

Yesterday was a big day for our redevelopment project... the steelwork for our stunning new balcony arrived!

The redesigned Circle will feature an elegant, curved balcony front. With the steel now on-site, things are about to move quickly - we can't wait to see the transformation take shape.
