Artist Willie Cole is one of the most creative contemporary sculptors around (see his chess board later in this post). This series of guitar based works is a perfect example. Canada Post is commemorating this week's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with stamps featuring the iconic Bentwood Box of artist Luke Marston. The move is a tribute to Survivors and a symbol of healing, reconciliation and hope. The issue includes three unique stamps depicting the front and sides of the Bentwood Box and reflecting the distinct cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis, and their children who attended residential schools.

The reason Canadian Art Junkie so often features process images and videos is they remind us of the intense work and passion behind almost any artist's work. This scene-setting film for Kathy Ruttenberg's massive New York City sculpture series is a superb example. Her project - In Dreams Awake - encompassed six monumental sculptures on the Broadway malls, the tree-lined green way between 64th and 157th Streets in Manhattan, in 2018 and 2019.

Artist Zemer Peled examines beauty and brutality in the natural world. Her works are formed of thousands of hand crafted ceramic shards constructed into sculptures and installations. Her latest works are exquisite. This post also covers some of her previous works, especially those that have process shots associated with them (beginning immediately below). Using a slab roller, Peled makes sheets of clay which are fired, and then smashed into pieces with a hammer, creating a contrast between soft and solid material.

Inuk artist Abraham Anghik Ruben has five decades of his work on exhibition at the Winnipeg Art Gallery until the spring of 2026, the first solo show in Qilak gallery, the world's largest exhibition space dedicated to Inuit art. Anghik Ruben has become a major innovative force among contemporary Inuit sculptors. His imagery derives from the rich early history of the Arctic in North America, bringing together the myths, legends, and stories of the early Viking expeditions to the New World and that of his ancestral Inuit peoples.
