Why do Labours’ comms make them
sound as incompetent as Reform and the Tories? Isn’t the government in control of border policy and immigration?
And don’t blame the ECHR. That’s a cop out.

Tied hands by sticking to a manifesto promise and not increasing a penny in the pound on income tax (£6.9 billion). What will the tax take be from reducing the deferral period on bankers’ bonuses to line the Exchequer’s coffers during the present term of government?

Brexit has had ‘severe and long lasting’ impact on economy, says Reeves, as she confirms budget tax rises – UK politics live
Chancellor cites the UK’s exit from EU alongside austerity and Truss’s mini-budget as issues affecting economy Downing Street is under pressure to publish its evidence in the collapsed China spy case after the Crown Prosecution Service denied having blocked its release, Emine Sinmaz reports. Good morning. In a much-praised FT column yesterday, Stephen Bush argued that one problem facing the Conservatives today is that “an essential condition for entry into the upper echelons of [the party] is being willing to at least pretend that you think taking Britain out of the EU was a good idea”. As Bush memorably put it, “this is a never-ending lobotomy for the Tories”. Starmer and Reeves are expected to argue that, if it hadn’t been for Brexit, this type of downgrade would not have been needed, and to cite official figures suggesting that if Britain had not left the European Union the economy would be about £120bn bigger by 2035 than current forecasts suggest it will be. The message is simple: [Nigel] Farage is ultimately to blame as the man who delivered Brexit with “easy sloganeering” then walked away from the aftermath rather than putting in the hard yards. Or, to put it another way: Farage, not us, is responsible for putting up your taxes. Austerity, Brexit, and the ongoing impact of Liz Truss’s mini-budget, all of those things have weighed heavily on the UK economy. Already, people thought that the UK economy would be 4% smaller because of Brexit. Now, of course, we are undoing some of that damage by the deal that we did with the EU earlier this year … but there is no doubting that the impact of Brexit is severe and long lasting and that’s why we are trying to do trade deals around the world, US, India, but most importantly with the EU. Israel’s govt is in breach of the human rights clause in its trade agreement with the EU. Article 2 - respect for human rights and democratic principles is an "essential element" of the agreement.
Sign the petition to persuade the EU to lawfully suspend the trade agreement as a necessary sanction.

Stop the racist payment. Take direct lawful action. Where we feel impotent in so many situations, take action to prevent where you can.

How can you help?
File a complaint with Stripe, the payment system, for facilitating profiteering from racism, contrary to its acceptable use rules.

Today was a day about collective action. We marked how acts of ‘Resistance’ from
1903-2003 have shaped Britain, in a new book launch by Steve McQueen using the powerful role of photography as a catalyst for change. A great conversation.

It’s worth a few minutes to read this piece from @joycewhitevance.bsky.social. The attacks on law firms are petty and vindictive, but they are also an attack on the ability of our judiciary to do its job. Thank you to those firms fighting back.

The stock portfolios of more than two dozen members of Congress outperformed the market in 2024.

This isn't due to luck or skill.

Lawmakers can use privileged information to trade stocks while they’re supposed to be working for you.

Make no mistake, it’s legalized corruption.
