When you saw the Acornsoft MODE 7 loading screen you knew you were about to play a great game! A sign of quality. In 1986, Acornsoft and Superior Software joined ranks and games were released with both companies names present on the packaging.

Yay! A RISC OS laptop that isn't an inch thick (unlike my other Dell). This one only has 4 cores though...

Not that RISC OS would notice! 🤭

So the Pi 5 and 500 can't run RISC OS that runs on the previous models not because Broadcom changed anything in the GPU but because of the more fundamental limitation that the newer Cortex-A76 CPU core can only run unprivileged (user mode) code in 32-bit mode. All privileged code has to be 64-bit.

I have a BBC Master 128 with USB, IDE and an internal HD. I have also added a Rasberry PiCoPro to it so I can run ARM, 32016, Z80 and 80186 code on it! It's great that people keep old hardware alive by making cool stuff like this!

Probably the best, fastest 8-bit computer I've ever used. A Master Turbo ( 4MHz 65c102 ) + 28MByte Hard Drive. Perfect for BBC Micro game development. Made obsolete with the arrival of the Acorn Archimedes range in June 1987. That jump from 8-bit to 32-bit was massive!

;) Maybe check the language support - Acorn, AFAIK, is the first to support the Welsh language.

Acorn A3000 is getting there. Last night was 'test the floppy drive' so I gave it a little servicing and by and large, nothing happened. 'Drive empty' said RiscOS. Discovered the battery leak had destroyed the cable internally so I thieved one from my R140.

It works! Time to make a new cable...

I'm currently working out what to show at next month's Retro Computer Festival ( Gaming Edition ) at the Centre for Computing History. I'm bringing along a Master 128 or BBC Micro and will focus on game development for those machines. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I find the weirdest stuff on old computers. Handheld camcorder footage of the British Motorcycle Grand Prix in 2004 at Donington Park... and someone at Cambridgeshire Software House paid Uniqueway to turn it into an Acorn Replay movie.

I've been working on Ovation Pro to add extra scaling options to the picture proxy setting. For those who attended my @rougol.bsky.social talk, I explained the use of proxy images. Base/16, Base/32 & Base/64 now offer even smaller proxies, making for smaller document sizes.
