And on the subject of the RISC OS Filer, the fact that there is no standardised way to cause the LOADING of a file is utterly shameful, and purely a result of ideological not-invented-here silo-purity tribalism which everyone concerned should have grown out of in the school playground.

Does anyone have a RiscPC? If so, could you download archive.debian.org/debian/dists... onto a RiscPC, unpack it, and use it to boot Linux? On my machine it hangs starting init and I don't know if it's a hardware issue or a software issue.

The BBC Micro is 44 years old today, Happy Birthday! However, many customers had to wait until early 1982 for delivery of theirs due to limited supply availability before Christmas. During its lifespan just over 1.5 million were sold - exact figures are not known. I still have my original one.

Interesting watch for #RISC_OS users from @adriansdigitalbasement.com about a month ago, where he tries out an A420/1 that was sent to him & learns a fair bit about Acorn history along the way.

There's a follow-up video, but I'll save that for another day.

The closest to that in the states is to have a Raspberry Pi 400 or lower running RISC-OS (The OS of the Archimedes). Funny thing is that RISC-OS is still developed to this day by the @riscosopen.bsky.social project, and as of now the greatest development priority is getting it to be fully 64-bit.

I do enjoy these videos. By this point, the BBC Micro magazines were publishing games listings that were matching commercial quality, a trend that would reach it's peak by the end of the decade.
