Other than my seizure disorder, I’m getting settled in with lots of long, brisk fall walks, weekend adventures, coffee shop hopping and digging back into my research!

Can’t believe I went from seizures and MRIs earlier this week to … running my first half marathon since 2023 with a 6+ minute PR today! #DisabledInSTEM

I started medication to treat my ADHD today, and I am very exited for what is to come 😊

I’m so sorry that this is happening 😭 it’s so disheartening. I’ve had to be so adamant and advocate for myself in this entire process (including sobbing on the phone). It already isn’t easy to navigate life in general, but to seek care? Ugh

What it’s like to have some sort of seizure disorder as a graduate student: I could barely talk and use my brain during office hours today. It’s so embarrassing to not be able to be as effective and helpful as I want to be for my students. #DisabledInSTEM

I also post to raise awareness of those who are navigating graduate school, academia, research with disabilities. We are here fighting to exist in these spaces and do good work and for ourselves every day.

My disorder has drastically altered my life in many ways. It’s validating to have my medical team say I’m handling it so well despite experiencing this with no care or treatment.

I hope my story shows that trauma does not just impact you mentally (PTSD, anxiety, depression), but also physically 2/2

After trying to see a neurologist for 9 months, I finally got to see a neurologist and was told that my seizures are real, likely non-epileptic & VERY likely triggered by PTSD starting almost a year ago.

I can finally breathe and start making progress toward an official diagnosis #DisabledInSTEM 1/

I’m finally getting disability accommodations for the first time and I am so relieved.

Usually there’s documentation to send to Harvard. I told them about my seizures and underlying health conditions and they have been so helpful and understanding as I try to get a diagnosis #DisabledInSTEM

Colonization continues to have profound generational impacts on my Mexicano/Tejano side in many ways ranging from modern conservative/ religious norms to unearthing our Indigenous roots that were taken from our ancestors. It’s very nuanced. Makes the emphasis on listening that much more imperative.
