Updated areoHDR app for iPhone, iPad & Vision Pro released today! With subscription access to images from all 1500+ sols! Free version with latest 200. New: Direct sol access and a Mars calendar with Earth dates and Mars season indicator for the rover location. apps.apple.com/app/areohdr/...
Just UV light and magnets below, even with the dust not being magnetic, was sufficient! The light creates unexpected large negative charge and magnetic fields produce the shape. Demonstrated in this 15 minute video from the 2017 Exploration Science Forum at NASA Ames: youtu.be/KULnd8TUxjI

Dunes on Comet 67P and albedo pattern swirls at magnetic anomalies on the Moon, like Reiner Gamma the planned landing site of @intuitivemachines.bsky.social IM-3 mission, were produced in laboratory experiments by Prof. Mihaly Horányi and team. (video link next in thread)
Here different calibration, also available in HDR on areo.info/mars20/ecams... (here on Bsky it's not shown in HDR)

Same-shaped rock in like a hand-axe, there even at the typical size of those, with conchoidal fractures was seen directly at the Mars Insight Lander location: www.jpl.nasa.gov/edu/resource...

... how the Mars rover's on board chemistry lab could be re-utilized for investigating further the unexpectedly found organic chemistry substances like fatty acids (long hydrocarbon chains) which hint to extend life on Mars. I'm wondering about the status of the 9 wet chemistry cups which are …
A few minutes ago at @themarssociety.bsky.social convention: Curiosity Rover Deputy Project Scientist for Project Scientist Ashwin Vasavada hearing Steven Benner's (renowned biochemist en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_...) and Robert Zubrin's (Mars Society President) questions about …
Edwin Kite, Associate Prof. at UChicago and at the astera.org Institute, followed today about localized surface-heat reflecting shields created by engineered micrometer-sized particles to warm up the surface, i.e. acting similar to the water droplets in clouds.

With Robert Zubrin's talk yesterday the International Mars Society Convention has begun at USC in Los Angeles! Program for today and Saturday on marssociety.org
Another try to capture 3I/Atlas was scheduled with the Navcam on Perseverance Mars Rover a few hours ago. The bright spot on the left is the moon Phobos with -6.5 magnitude. 2025-10-04 06:13:44 UTC. The exact UTC time when images were taken is shown below each image on areo.info/mars20/ecams... .
Experiment: UV light moves sand magnitudes farther than previous assumptions allow. Albedo differences like Reiner Gamma are still actively sustained. Relates to the lunar dust detector LDEX on LADEE. "The dust environment of airless planetary bodies", Horányi, Szalay, Wang.

Water clouds (liquid or ice) yesterday on Mars. Clear skies 5 days earlier. The panorama shows haze on the horizon and a bonus dust devil. On areo.info/mars20/ecams... in HDR or with the areoHDR app, more clouds are visible in other images from that day which are overexposed white in non-HDR.

New images a day later now from the same weird rock on Mars as seen on mission day 1630 yesterday. This time treated with the 5cm diameter rock abrasion tool. More: areo.info/mars20/ecams...
Perseverance Rover reached a location on Mars which rises rock weirdness to a new level! Pattern like roots or splattered liquid glass and patches imitating lichens. The red material didn't move during brush cleaning by the robot. More from the same day Sep 20, 2025 on areo.info/mars20/ecams...
Dark shadow over Perseverance Rover on mission day 1622, Sep 11, 2025 US timezones. Both images are from the same day viewing west outside Jezero Crater shortly after sun rise and at noon. More images and better in HDR: areo.info/mars20/ecams...
