We were delighted to host the Architects Council of Europe and European Network of Architects Competent Authorities this week to discuss collaboration with countries and ensuring high professional standards and maintaining the integrity of registers.

For architects, CPD helps to maintain and develop professional competence.

To retain registration, architects must record their CPD activities and be able to demonstrate what competencies they have developed and how these improve their practice.

Our CPD scheme allows architects to concentrate on the
areas they want to develop. The
scheme aims to improve architects’ eligibility to practice in an increasingly regulated area of building safety, raise competence and increase public confidence in the profession.

The Architects Code, which came into effect this month, is a positive statement of what professionalism and ethics mean for an architect.

Our Architects Code has been in effect since last week, it sets out key standards to ensure architects maintain professionalism and uphold public trust. It explains in clear terms the behaviours and high standards that all architects are expected to meet.

Our team had a roundtable in Glasgow discussing the Scottish context for architecture with learning providers and employers also joined by Sandy Robinson, Scottish Government Chief Architect, Tamsie Thomson, and Gordon Murray.

If you’re recording your CPD with RIBA, you don’t also need to re-enter it into MyARB.

When paying your retention fee for 2026 at the end of the year, all you need to do is sign the CPD declaration to say that you have recorded your CPD with RIBA.

In 2024, we moved further into our new model for architectural education and accreditation.

We received 14 applications for 18 qualifications under the new framework, aligned with the updated Competency Outcomes. The first start in Sept 2025.

In 2024, we had international agreements in place with five counterpart regulators. These agreements make it quicker and easier for eligible UK architects to have their qualifications recognised in countries such as the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

In 2024, we opened 586 new misuse of title cases - up from 576 in 2023.

In 2024, we welcomed 1,535 admissions to the Architects Register from the UK route - a 10% increase from 2023’s 1,393 admissions.
