Controversial opinion: When someone makes a post calling for authors to promote their book in the comments, it looks like they're just fishing for likes and comments.

If you're reading books like that, list titles that you actually read from your last post as well. That helps a lot.

Reviews matter.

That video from a new creator, that song from an obscure artist, that book from an indie author. Like, comment, review... it all matters. Most of them will say it matters more than the income itself.

It only takes minutes of your time, and it means the world to them.

I started with that. But then the feedback started coming in about the romantic comment. Some said they liked the romance focus, one even said that it had too much for them (I suspect they preferred a book with none at all) so it keeps feeling like it should be part of the promotion.

I'm in this annoying place where I don't know how to market the romance content in my book. If I see someone say they want romantic fantasy, I worry if my book doesnt have enough romantic content. If someone says they dont want romantasy, I worry that my book has too much romance for them.

Saw someone asking for recommendations that matched my book. Until I saw the term "own voices". Never saw that before, and I had a feeling it didn't mean what I thought.

Thank god I looked it up. Saved myself a ton of embarrassment there.

If anyone loves Survival Horror and Loot-based rpgs, you should check out a game called "House of Necrosis". It's an indie game that has turn based combat.

Well, that's enough self-pity. The event sucked, but I'm ready to move on. "Oathbound" needs to be edited, my third book needs a finished draft, and "Legend of the Defiler" still deserves to be out there.

My books are good. I won't stop trying, and I will not be broken.

Dealing with a lot of setbacks for promoting my book. I try everything I can think of, but I still don't have much to show for two years of hard work. Almost no local support at all. Not nearly enough reviews or readers.

I'm not giving up. I just needed to vent a bit.

3. Free Friday

Today, in about 5 hours, I am doing an in-person author event at The Book Bin in Corvallis, Oregon. I'll be doing my first live reading from my favorite part of the book, and I am practicing it over and over again at home ot make sure I get it right.
