Having a well deserved nap

For right now, her only job is to rest and eat.

Saska’s surgery is over and she’s home resting with us. The price of clean margins is a big scar and a lot of pain but she’s home safe, has plenty of meds, and constant attention. We won’t know she’s out of the woods until the tests on her tumor come back in a couple weeks.

Oct 12th - While working on a documentary, Steve Zisssou's best friend, Esteban du Plantier, was eaten alive by a "jaguar shark".

📽️📅 The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
4 Screenshots from the movie "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" (2004): First, two men in matching blue uniforms stand on a boat with rocky cliffs in the background, one wearing a red beanie and holding a harpoon gun. The subtitle reads, "October 12th. Esteban and I explore the blue reefs beyond the peninsula." Second, a man is pictured swimming in turbulent water with the words "ESTEBAN WAS EATEN" overlaid in yellow text. Third, two men in formal attire sit at a long table in a grand room adorned with a mural, with one asking, "What would be the scientific purpose of killing it?" Fourth, the same scene continues as the other man responds with the single word, "Revenge."

We won’t know she’s out of the woods yet until after the surgery once we get the tumor grade and the surgeon reports back on the margins they got. But I’m more optimistic now the further I’ve gotten into it than I was at the beginning and our girl is still very much in the game

That’s wonderful to hear and the hope is what keeps me going. Re Benadryl, the vet mentioned that to us and we’ve been giving her some since the diagnosis

Haven’t been posting much lately. Last week Saska had a lump tested at the vet and it came back as a mast cell tumor. It’s been really tough on us but I got great news last night. Imaging, bloodwork, and biopsy all show no signs of spread. She’s cleared for surgery on Sunday.

The weather is about to get colder. It's the time of year when middle aged men's thoughts turn once again towards WWII history. Preparing for the season by getting a translated copy of Leopold Trepper's 1975 memoir about his role orchestrating resistance networks in occupied France for the Soviets.

A little followup research shows his weight gain in early 1960-61 was likely due to testosterone supplements he was getting to deal with gastrointestinal issues that were causing him to lose weight. His life sounds really painful at the time.
