I love words, yarn, animals, food, and Jesus. Not necessarily in that order.

My geranium never got the memo that the season is over. We’ve had a few hard freezes, and she hasn’t given up hope.
I’ve heard it said the only constant in life is change. I choose to believe that, while we can’t control everything that happens, we can still choose to work for positive change.
Really praying this is sarcasm, because I’m here for it 🤣
If you’d like to serve at our soup kitchen, donate money to the food pantry, or create a new ministry to meet community needs, I - or any other pastor - would be thrilled to have someone helping with the massive need.
For anyone cheering the downfall of government helping programs and saying, “Churches and food pantries need to step up.”

I agree we do need to step up. And we’re taking volunteers.
Normalize straying from talking points. People are more complex than bots and algorithms would have us believe.
And with that said, thank you for your pushback and for offering your perspective. I don’t think we will see eye to eye on this topic, and that’s ok. I’m not going to keep going back and forth.
I disagree. It is never unkind to ask who my neighbor is and how I’m called to love them. And yes, it hurts sometimes and ruffles feathers, but the gospel isn’t meant to be comfortable. It’s meant to be good.
That is not what I’m advocating for. It’s interesting to me how I’ve been kind in my responses to you, but you have assumed unkind things about me.
I have been in both places. I have been poor with no insurance, pregnant unexpectedly, and with no idea how I could safely have my baby and afford it with no health insurance. I’m in a better position now and that means I need to help others just like people helped me.
We can have mercy on the foreigner AND on the person in poverty who can’t find a job or who can’t find a job with a livable wage. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.
Both parties have recognized that our immigration system is terribly broken, and in our not recent past, republicans longed for a path to citizenship for the folks whose only crime was crossing the border. Provide a path to citizenship and these folks wouldn’t be stuck working slave wages.
You realize we don’t have to have a competition over who is suffering the most, right? Slave wages can be wrong while it is also wrong to deport people just to show our brute strength.
That’s true. Just like there’s nothing stopping you from taking care of people who need it.
I don’t disagree with that. That doesn’t make it right to detain people with the same skin color as a person who murdered someone without cause for doing so.
Jesus is not going to ask us if we rubbed shoulders with people who thought or voted like us. He’s going to ask if we loved our neighbors.
Who is my neighbor?

*The one about to lose SNAP benefits.
*The parent about to lose WIC for their infant child.
*The person detained because of their skin color.
*The one who is ill and losing access to necessary treatments.
I’ve felt sad the last few days, but I made and shared cookies with a group. I’m making chili and cinnamon rolls tonight to feed the office for lunch tomorrow.

Feeding people is my love language, and I won’t let the dumpster fire of the world or my emotional dysfunction take that away from me.
As soon as the kid repeated it (complete with hand gestures) I said out loud, “oh nooooooo.”
I accidentally said 6-7 at youth group tonight.

Prayers and well wishes are appreciated.

These Pumpkin Oatmeal Besties are so good! Thanks for the recipe, B. Dylan Hollis!
