Today I can offer not one but two kei cars. Well, two vans really. Brown lad is I think a Subaru Sambar, white nugget is a Daihatsu Mira Walkthrough van.

One of the limitations of Google's public transport directions, detailed as they are, is that it tries to do the most direct route rather than the smartest. Umpteen trains in over 2hrs in pic 1, or pic 2 and 3, a fast train and 12 mins back-tracking on a commuter line.

Finally got around to taking some nice photos of the rental MX-5. I've not even taken any of my *own* MX-5 like this. (Nor have I driven my own car on any roads as good as the one I found today 🤷‍♂️)

Daihatsu Move Canbus is the Kei of the Day. These things are absolutely everywhere here. Probably one of the best-looking of the more practical, cab-forward kei boxes.

Some surrealism yesterday with the white marble sculptures at the Hill of Hope, at Kousanji Temple on Ikuchi Island.

Haven't raided the proper camera for a kei car yet so here's another from yesterday, a Suzuki Carry or similar cosplaying as something old.

As I didn't clarify earlier, the cycling was because I rode (some of) the Shimanami Kaido, an absolutely spectacular island-hopping route across the Seto inland sea. I started on the left (actually the south) and made it to the Omishima Bridge marked on the map.

Didn't snap any kei cars yesterday, but making up for it with this modified Copen.

Two-wheelin' it today.

In case you're wondering the Japanese snack battle is currently a two-horse race between Family Mart chocolate marshmallows, and 7-Eleven chocolate grapes. Given the packaging similarity though I suspect they're all made in the same place.

One off the "big" camera.

Do like a good cityscape. Takamatsu, from Mt Yashima.

Pissing it down desu

Side alley in Osaka, before and after editing.

Not exactly a glamour shot but first snap of the first rental car. Familiar, and yet different. Worse things to do than spend a day cruising around Wakayama and Osaka with the top down.
November 24, 2025 at 7:25 AM
Easy pick again for Kei of the Day, with this Hijet at TRIAL.
November 24, 2025 at 7:13 AM
Couple more snaps from yesterday. Hi-Ace on Wats, and some retro-look wheels on a Hilux Surf.
November 23, 2025 at 10:29 PM
Kei of the Day is err... a Daihatsu Move? All I know is that the BBS wheels are a great choice (basically identical to the ones on my old Eunos Roadster).
November 23, 2025 at 12:52 PM
Ōsaka is delivering so far.
November 23, 2025 at 5:31 AM
Not really into Volvos, but a pristine 240 in Osaka deserves a snap.
November 23, 2025 at 4:23 AM
Kei of the Day could only be this spectacular duo in America-Mura in Osaka.

Another from last night. This is one for @supcat.bsky.social I think...

Re: models, they've wasted no time getting the new Prelude out. Saw a few in both kit and diecast form. Saw one on the road today too but couldn't get a snap - looks better in the metal than in pics, I think.

Bluesky compression is probably gonna knacker this somewhat, but got some cool snaps in Osaka tonight. 1/6s, f4, manual focus, and shot from the hip so I could get the xmas lights in the hedge in the foreground. Cappuccino is a Christmas drink, right?

I bet you didn't know there was a model of a 1984 IMSA Renault Encore, much less one specifically from the race at Sears Point that year.
