Book 1 of 2025 #Solitaire by #AliceOseman, a real nostalgia fest for us born in the 90s. It’s the January book for #QueerLitUK #BookClub, will be fun to discuss on Wednesday. 📕 🌈

I once heard from a guy, who was put up at the Novotel, but had a Dr's appointment in town.

Because the "hotel" provided food, he only got £8.86 a week, so he had to walk it.

Which took 3 hours, there and back. Which meant he missed a meal.

The entire system is set up to be cruel by design.

It’s sad it’s taken a #PreventionOfFutureDeaths order from the coroner for this to be picked up by the media but the current implementation of #RightCareRightPerson seriously needs to be reviewed www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater...
When police step back: The mental health decisions that are costing lives
The 'Right Care Right Person' scheme is aimed at reducing the amount of time police spend responding to mental health and welfare calls. But coroners have raised concerns about how it's being applied

Book 51 of 2025 #WhatItFeelsLikeForaGirl by #ParisLees, I read this for a #BookClub, but I’m sure like many the brilliant BBC adaptation had meant this was on my TBR for a few months. I love how it’s written in the dialect of ‘ucknall. Made me chuckle, smile and cry! #BookSky #QueerSky #TransSky

As part of the parenting assessment a #RorschachTest was undertaken and a #Greenlandic parent described woman gutting a seal, and believes the psychologist conducting the test called her a Barbarian! #Racism #RacismInDenmark

"they made me play with a doll and criticised me for not making enough eye contact".

Eye contact is different in different cultures. #Danish psychologist was “checking” if the #Kalaallit/ #Greenlandic parents are civilised enough this is #racist #Greenland #Denmark

Interesting #QueerHistory from #EliasMichaut focussing on #LesDouaires the French youth penal colony where the youth stood up against policies to send them to nap, due to concerns about them having same sex relationships

Farage: "All over the world, you apply for a work visa - that visa is for you. Not to bring your family... That is how a normal work visa works."

Entirely untrue.

Most work visas allow dependents, including in countries that the UK competes with for labour - US, Canada, Australia and 27 EU states.
