Bessent: "This crazy No Kings rally this weekend, which is gonna be the farthest left, the hardest core, the most unhinged in the Democratic Party, which is a big title. No Kings equals no paychecks."

Maybe her run is a strategy intended to strengthen Platners game. Yes, we need a younger candidate but as she contests Platner he’ll have to improve his skills and ultimately will be a better candidate against Sue. (Or what if Mills is clearly an excellent candidate??)

Are we to deduce that you are experiencing some sort of relief? (When confronted by such a situation my reaction is inevitably disappointing — kind of like “Okay. That’s done. Moving on.”

Why doesnt she go to his office or wherever he is these days, bring a bible and a couple witnesses and demand to be sworn in? I do not understand!

Continue to disagree about similarities in governance.

However we are in agreement that the public sentiments that endorsed Hitler and Trump appear to be similar … alas!

This is the way, Guv : stay visible, stay proud, stay vocal — as you maneuver within this difficult situation. Also keep walking!

It is probably easy for someone abroad to criticize the USA. I am American, and I criticize the USA, too. (A lot.)That said, our history, our demographics, our constitution, and the personalities in leadership all differ from those of most nations. Comparisons are meaningless.

Thank you for writing this. I feel the same.

The Republicans could end this shutdown by negotiating a decrease to your rising health insurance premiums. They don’t want to do that because that premium increase will pay for their tax cut for rich people.

CA folks, I voted YES ON PROP 50.

Gerrymandering is objectively anti-democratic, but if Red and Purple states are going to do it (and they are), then the only way to ultimately put a stop to it is for Blue states to respond in-kind. Having the moral high ground won’t save Democracy.

Agree. But their inferiority complex persists.

Rasmus Jarlov: When Russia attacks the next country because they were allowed to take Ukraine, we Danes will hold our heads high knowing we did our part where others were free riding and made up excuses for the Russian aggression. Note that the US is at the bottom of the list of NATO donors.

Possibly he and his advisers have already thought of this? Possibly they have decided that it´s not the way to go— at least right now?

Good points, all. It seems to come down to a matter of trust — that Pritzker and his advisors are creating a strategy that will meet this perilous moment on multiple fronts. (Meanwhile there’s that pain in my gut from thinking about this stuff...:(

True - but generous of you to express.

PS I just looked at your professional description - astronomer, etc- and all that implies. You have my respect.

We need an effective leader; Pritzker is the closest so far, so I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt right now. Probably at some point he will need to take stronger action- Like, say, a face-to-face talk with Ms. Noem or DJT- to actually walk the talk and prove himself.
Your thoughts?
