It's university and scholarship application season, and consequentially, reference letter season.

Reading the things that adults have to say about my kid (kids, really) makes me super proud and somehow makes any room I'm in super dusty.

Did that work? Doesn't seem to work for me.

We have more than one XP machine, well insulated from the internet. They run aged lab equipment, and one's a VM that has a development environment tweaked *just so* to create 32 bit libraries for a specific product that still needs to support 32 bit stuff. I'm sympathetic to people clinging to Win10

Amusing idea: whomever is in the control room >bleeps< out Moe every time he begins a sentence with "Look,"

Happy Thanksgiving!

"Which is closer to your view regarding the tanker ban off the BC coast?"

Leave in place: 29%
Allow for the new oil pipeline project: 26%
Repeal the ban completely: 23%

Unsure: 21%

Canadians – If you have some time this long weekend, fill out this godawful government survey on AI, which itself seems to have been written by AI trained exclusively on buzzword-laden LinkedIn posts.

We did that route a few years ago with the kids. Apparently many of the places to stay didn't survive the past few years, but the Chute Lake Lodge is about halfway between Kelowna and Penticton. Yes, not paved, but still reasonably popular!

It, uh, stayed kinda wet until we reached sea level. Fortunately we weren't made of sugar.

The ride from the Lynn Valley library to Lonsdale Quay with @modacitylife.com started out a little on the damp side.

It was nerve wracking but somehow I stayed afloat. I mean, made it home.

Apparently I needed to look at a transit schedule instead of just wandering up to the Seabus terminal. Stuck staring at this.
The lights off the city of Vancouver at night across the Burrard Inlet from the City of North Vancouver's Lonsdale Quay.

>sob< What do you mean the Seabus only runs every half hour now? I'm just supposed to stand around and *wait*?!

About to venture out of my city to the (checks notes) North Shore.

Tacky. Also, we're not going to the States, remember?

You could do Tuesday nights at the Starlight, perhaps.

Fine. Let's say it first and work on making it happen next.

Driving is a privilege, not a right. There should be more consequences for negligent drivers.

It seems almost criminal that there isn't secure bike parking at BC Place/Rogers Arena for all their events.

And yes. As part of the event permitting process, CoV should require secure bike parking for at least 10% of the expected attendees.

Haha. I even looked at the precip map this morning just before it left and it showed a string of showers and heavier rain moving across Vancouver.

Not a drop on my subsequent 35 min ride.

Isn't that essentially what's happened? ABC wouldn't run a referendum just before the election, would they? They could run it as another question on the municipal ballot, though.

Vancouver's TransLink is a rare success story in North American transit, with ridership almost matching pre-Covid levels. It might be the only big 🇺🇸/🇨🇦 agency that has *expanded* total bus service since 2019.

I spoke w/CEO Kevin Quinn about lessons from TransLink's rapid recovery. 🧵
The Secret to Vancouver’s Public Transit Ridership Recovery
The Canadian city’s transit agency, TransLink, bounced back from Covid even as other North American systems have struggled. Its leader explains why riders returned.

Dear #bikeyvr, I wore my rain gear this morning so you didn't have to. You're welcome. 😒
