Met Bridget Phillipson MP today to discuss the Soho Kids Xmas Lights project & the role of children’s agency in shaping the built environment. We touched on STEAM, project-based learning & creating a third space—core themes in my PhD. Thanks to Cllr Patrick Lilley for the invite!
Last week, we ran a curatorial workshop with Tredegarville CiW pupils, starting at National Museum Cardiff exploring collecting, cataloguing & curating. Back at school, they designed their Xmas lights exhibition, considering scale & context. Their ideas will soon brighten Cardiff’s streets!
North Paddington Canalside Festival on 13 Sept, participants of all ages explored wellbeing in public spaces, sketching landmarks, rating comfort, safety, beauty & connection, and creating Canal Codes. A short, improvised session sparked meaningful conversations on health, inclusion & community.
On 15 Sept, the Building Centre buzzed with ideas at the Reflective Cities, Creative Mindsets Symposium. Honouring Victoria Thornton’s legacy, speakers shared how creativity, collaboration, and inclusive design—from public art to youth co-creation—can shape cities and minds for a better future.

The Soho Kids Xmas Lights Jury met at Soho Primary School to choose six winning designs on Lighting, Identity of Place, and Women in Soho. Thanks to all who joined or voted, and to Clare Lynch and Head Teacher Oliver Knight, who highlighted the project’s strong link to the school curriculum.
Year 4 & 5 pupils from Tredegarville CiW joined the CKXL25 workshop, inspired by Elinor Weekley’s career. Themes of lighting, place & women in Cardiff sparked amazing designs. Thanks to all staff, pupils, Kate Martin, Tim Brett & Elinor for their brilliant contributions!
