#HealthyFutures helps Alaska kids stay active, healthy, and connected through sports

Sometimes, the simple consistency of a game or a practice can bring stability when everything else feels upside down

Every $ helps. 💙

Love working on this project where we bring together many of the amazing data sources out there! We have a mission to democratize data. It has been supper fun to work on and we are just getting started!!

Looking for real-time infectious disease trends? PopHIVE has you covered.

PopHIVE combines multiple sources of data — like Google Trends and medical records — to keep you informed in real-time. When one source slows down, others fill in the picture.

Graph of trends in respiratory viral activity in Florida shows several data sources have trends going slightly up. Sick season is starting. Here’s how to watch infectious disease trends (even when some data sources are down). Yale School of Public Health.
Activity is increasing in Florida, where RSV season often begins before sweeping across the nation. This can be an early sign that respiratory virus season is getting underway.
Graph of trends in respiratory viral activity in Florida shows several data sources have trends going slightly up. Arrow pointing to title says “PopHIVE brings together multiple data sources —from Google Trends to medical records and more— so you can still track real-time infectious disease activity even when federal data slows down.” Arrow pointing to one data source line says “Epic Cosmos is based on emergency department data (non-federal source)” Arrow pointing to another data source line says “Google Health Trends looks for searches related to COVID-19”
Yale School of Public Health. Flu activity is still low (for now). Graph of trends in influenza activity in the United States shows multiple data sources showing rates are low. Arrow pointing to one data source line on the graph says “Epic Cosmos (based on emergency department visits) is the most up-to-date source for flu”
COVID-19 is still trending down. Graph shows trends in COVID-19 activity in the United States. Multiple data sources show it’s trending down. The latest data from Delphi’s doctor and hospital claims

In Alaska, pharmacists may independently prescribe and administer vaccines under Alaska Statute AS 08.80.168, so there is no requirement for the standing orders that are used in many other states to authorize pharmacists to prescribe a vaccine

In Alaska, the pharmacist can independently prescribe an administer vaccines so there isn’t the need for the same standing order they were seeing lots of other states for pharmacist to prescribe a vaccine

Syphilis is rising in #Alaska — but it’s easily cured if caught early

👉 Get tested if you have a new partner
👉 Pregnant women: test 3 times
👉 Rapid testing + treatment saves lives

I talked w/ Dr. Liz Ohlsen on Line One about what we can do.

A few thoughts about the targeted violent attack on federal workers at the CDC when bullets rained against the buildings, staff hid in fear, and an officer was killed responding to the shooting on Friday.

Sending you all much love.

I'm excited and grateful to see Mat-Su looking to expand mental-health resources for #Alaskans. These services are urgently needed across the state and in our community—especially for our youth—and this action brings us closer to meeting those needs www.lookforwardmat-su.com

Under Pioneer Peak’s shadow, it’s #PublicHealth #prevention: trusted messengers sharing safety, skills, knowledge.

So wear your helmet and consider a certified safety course even if you ride a lot, but have never taken a course - I hear you still learn a ton!

Stay safe & have fun!

So I never planned to ride… yet this weekend I took Valley ABATE AK’s Motorcycle Safety Course. Two days later, sun shining and my driver’s card in my pocket, I’m amazed at what I learned—and dare I say how much fun it was! 2/3

Growing up, I heard motorcycles called “donor-cycles.” A close friend only got a life-saving transplant because a rider’s fatal crash freed up organs. As an ER doc, I’ve treated too many two-wheel injuries—and Alaska leads the nation in TBI deaths from motorcycles, ATVs & snowmachines. 1/3

🎙️ On #LineOne I sat with and had a fun, high paced coversation with Dr. Sarah Spencer, 15-yr rural #Alaska addiction doc, myth-busting #MOUD concerns and highlighting how medicaion can slashes overdose deaths by ≈50% and support long and productive lives.

A sound now all too familiar

The ability to walk or bike and breathe clean air as you do your daily life along with clean food and water are the cornerstones of health.

It is remarkable to see what Paris has achieved. 🥰
washingtonpost.com
Over the past 20 years, Paris has undergone a major physical transformation, trading automotive arteries for bike lanes, adding green spaces and eliminating 50,000 parking spaces.

Part of the payoff has been invisible — in the air itself.
Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change.
Air pollution fell substantially as the city restricted car traffic and made way for parks and bike lanes.

2/3 Recently, I’ve seen diseases return due to weakened public health measures: syphilis resurgence, risks from unpasteurized milk, and fragile medical supply chains, rising cost of care. Public health addresses these issues proactively, protecting us quietly yet profoundly.

1/3 During my training, I never saw measles, Haemophilus influenzae b, or syphilis—because effective public health strategies had nearly eliminated these threats. But what I once took for granted, those public health victories, are sliding backward
